Pixies – Dig For Fire Lyrics 16 years ago
I always thought it was pretty obvious: someone is ridiculing elderly homeless bums that are digging through the trash for something to burn for warmth.

La Style – James Brown is Dead Lyrics 17 years ago
James Brown samples were overused around this time in hip hop--here "dead" simply means out of style. I hated this song because to me it dismissed the art of sampling alltogether, but in retrospect i think it was a call for hip hop to innovate.

The Doors – The End Lyrics 18 years ago
I see the end as the cusp between childhood and adulthood. It’s the end of seeing the world through innocent eyes and coming out of that delusion and that’s why the children are insane. This song is profound to me in retrospect after consciously taking on adulthood then realizing what Morrison may have meant. Its my belief that unless a son doesn’t develop an acute loathing of his father, the father didn’t do his job. Its our job as his progeny to supplant him and go further than he did—if we remain in awe we can’t surpass his greatness. Omniscient Jim beckons the killer to take the uncertain journey which is not especially safe, toward a boundless future. The music demonstrates why I think this is that precise time when we commit to this, its luring, mysterious, and eerie. Its full of tension until the release at the end. By taking on adulthood he effectively kills the boy he used to be by rejecting all the safe ideas and illusions of youth. or as joe5000 cited morison "It could be goodbye to a kind of childhood."
