Bad Religion – Come Join Us Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Quoted from crossbuster "Look at this statement from Greg Graffin: The "come join us" attitude that seeks to attract followers, usually results in a rabble of weak people who think that their power lies in the large numbers of like-minded clones they have compiled. There is no strength in numbers however, if the people are glued together by a short-sighted, self-serving, fear-induced mantra that promotes factions and exclusionary principles. Come join us attitude, reminds you of something? ohhhhhhhh" Seriously, reread that quote. Greg is obviously in opposition to what the words, "Come Join Us" provoke. He states directly that he is opposed to group mentality in several of his other songs and in case you really need to understand the song, he sums up his entire message in the last stanza. "Independent, self-contented, revolutionary Intellectual, brave, strong and scholarly If you're not one of them, you're us already so Come join us" Basically, in case you can't understand the directness of his language, if you are not intelligent, brave, independent, etc., then you are exactly what the group (Whichever of a number of groups you can choose from) is looking for. And yes, you can add the modern punk movement in there as well because punk is dead and most everyone who follows the psuedo-punks of today are fucking mindless idiots. The true spirit of punk, the search for answers as opposed to accepting blindly, is generally not found in the mainstream movements of our day. |
Death Cab for Cutie – What Sarah Said Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Who's going to watch me die? |
Band of Horses – St. Augustine Lyrics | 18 years ago |
St. Augustine, neyond actually being a person, could be referring to many things I imagine if not the person itself. I image there are lots of place called St. Augustine. None the less, this is a wonderul song. "Let's bury ourselves and go haunt someone tonight" I would love to have a friend who shared the same love and sick morbib humor as myself. |
A Wilhelm Scream – God Loves A Liar Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Pretty much saying that those who believe in God are liars to themselves and the world (implying that God does not exist of course). |
Propagandhi – Impending Halfhead Lyrics | 18 years ago |
What the F* is a 'halfhead'? Is a balding person? I can't figure it out. |
A Wilhelm Scream – Me Vs Morrissey In The Pretentiousness Contest (The Ladder Match) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I have a love hate relationship with this band .. one of the best hard-rock albums 'musically' which I have heard in a while .. but their lyrics are just terrible. |
Shout Out Louds – Please Please Please Lyrics | 18 years ago |
fantastic song .. sad .. forlorn .. but with great pop sensibilties |
Shout Out Louds – Shut Your Eyes Lyrics | 18 years ago |
this song is adorable .. that is all I need to say |
NOFX – The Marxist Brothers Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Well on Potemkin City Limits, Glen makes a dig at Fat Mike (nofx) so I imagine the two have a mutual dislike for themselves .. both bands have great views but at the same time they both realize that they have become what they have always hated .. they are making fun at themselves, each other in a sort of understanding way .. mutual respect to a certain degree |
NOFX – The Desperation's Gone Lyrics | 18 years ago |
as with most poltico-punk bands out there I am quite certain they began their band thinking they could change the world and that what was eating up their minds had to be said .. they were desperate to try and make a chanage as opposed to sitting around taking the shit they were being served .. a life of not knowing what was next, a life desperate to be eaten by the vitality of youth .. now they are businessmen .. now they are accomplished and they haven't really changed the world at all .. they are making music to continue their jobs .. there is no desperation behind the music .. they are now a part of the world they probably once hated (to a certain degree) .. |
NOFX – Eat The Meek Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Jedi .. I don't think the song has a 'sad undertone' the song is entirely depressing .. 'one own the air, one pay to breathe' .. a line about the ever mas production and ownership of everything that is used to survive .. a bit if an exaggeration but not that far in the future .. who knows .. The deline of modern earth and how everyone is accepting blindly |
Propagandhi – Ladies' Nite in Loserville Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I'm not certain if this is pro-feminism .. Feminism has been given a pretty bad rap for some time and it is now often correltaed with crazy power hungry women .. I would say that this song while supporting a powerful female role is about equality .. men have more often than not been seen as the more 'animal instinct' based of the human species while women being the 'prim and proper' .. nonsense .. we are all animals and have animal instincts which we like to fulfill .. fucking feels good and neither a man or a women can deny that .. so if a man can fuck to cum so can a women .. equality for the masses and it the most honest fashion .. "We won't deny our cocks and cunts any longer!" |
Propagandhi – Back To The Motor League Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Thank you Tony for finally saying this .. most people are focused on the three bands Chris mentions in the song but if you read the lyrics you get a sense that he is speaking of a much larger, more widespread problem in the entire music industry. I know so many people that become vegan or what-not simply because their favorite bands are doing it .. Hating Bush because NoFX tells them to .. Buying Vans because that punk band on MTV is wearing them .. Going to Warped Tour because it is a punk show so it must be subversive right? Propagandhi are of the few and fleeting breaths left of "punk" It started as an ideal and that is what it should remain .. Ignorance is not punk .. If you are going to believe in something how about doing it due to the research you have done first hand and not because your favorite fucking band said to do right after pimping their latest "emo-t-shirt" or "anti-corporate" company .. These 'subversive companies' are often tiomes just as much to blame as the Nike's of the world. Propagandhi is about educating the people .. as they say "Knowledge is power" .. they are not out searching for people to jump on their bandwagon but at rather conveying their raw emotion in reference to some bloated social problems with the world .. If you notice they never tell you how to think in their songs .. some people may be proponents of liking propagandhi because they are 'anti-everything man!!' but in actuality they are hoping to educate by influence .. listening to their cd is not a lesson .. it is a catalyst .. go out and read a book .. turn off your CNN and actually find out what is going on in the world .. Remain vigilant in the face of discension .. Never claim you know the answers but be proud for keeping your eyes fucking open. |
Propagandhi – Name and Address Withheld Lyrics | 18 years ago |
wow What a powerful song I've caught myself thinking very similar things possibly more than I enjoy but to the "bully that never learns" I can never sympathize. |
Sufjan Stevens – Decatur, or Round of Applause for Your Stepmother! Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Someone further up mentioned their amazement about how much time Sufjan must have spent in each of the areas he has written about. If I am not mistaken, however, I don't think he has ever visited Illinois. I am not sure about Michigan |
