Anyone have any idea about what C.C.A.A. stands for?
I saw them and we actually asked them and they said it's a secret!

Grandaddy – What Happened... Lyrics 18 years ago
Since the title of the album is "Just Like the Fambly Cat," and this song is asking what happened to the fambly cat, as in it is gone, this means Grandaddy is just like the fambly cat. They are gone. And I am sad.

Grandaddy – Shangri-La Lyrics 18 years ago
This is (obviously) a cover of the end of the ELO song (http://www.songmeanings.net/lyric.php?lid=3530822107858554161) with the same title. But instead of "I will return to Shangri-La" it's "never return".

Which is really sad. It's the last song on their last album. I think it was an awesome way to end Grandaddy.
Goodbye, Grandaddy!

Super Furry Animals – Zoom! Lyrics 18 years ago
I think it's just sort of surrealist and doesn't have to much of a concrete meaning.

Mostly it's just weird imagery, I think. But there could be a basic plot. I can see it a few ways.

One would be maybe about a girl he likes, but she doesn't really like him back. Like, he took her to the movie but she moved away, and the dalmation's spots fell off. He was trying hard for her, but it wasn't good enough, or she didn't respond. And that's why the kissing is with apocalypse, which is not a good thing. But he still can't get enough of her, even though she lets him down.

Another way I can see it is it has to do with drugs. Sort of similar Something for the Weekend. It could explain some of the imagery. And how he keeps coming back to it, but also has a bad relationship with it.

But I don't really think there is much of a basic plot.

The original version had lyrics they had written on the way to a Peel session. Here are the lyrics for that one:

Knocked out cold in a circular movement, drowned
Stabbed in the back of a cut in the head
Left for dead, dead and really unsteady

Ate a lot of it again
King Kong, take the money and then pay for it
Zoom back just a little

Ate a lot of it again
King Kong, ate the money and then paid for it
Zoom in, zoom back a little

Monster equipped with a stick feel mud in carpet boots
Tasseled flares, always trip me up with worst concussion
Locked out cold, fucking marvellous

Elliott Smith – Little One Lyrics 18 years ago
These lyrics seem a little wrong, here's what I hear:

one more little one
i'll go down stay down
sleep the rest of the day
dream new music to calm down
stay down and keep evil away
i can hear you asleep
changing your shape
dissolve in some dream
as a new one appears
to take you along where you've never been
one two three four five six seven
the moonlight tonight seems to belong to me
cause i, even though [i] some can't sleep
i need some company
one hit wouldn't hurt a bit i'll
slow down sleep
what's there to find [take]?
if it's good shit you won't know
and i won't know the fact that i'm dying
if i seem to be reckless with myself
it's the fault of no one
all things have a place
under the moon
as well as the sun
one more
little one
i love you

The only part I am having trouble with is the line that I wrote as "cause i, even though [i] some can't sleep", I've listened to it a lot and still am a little unsure about it. Even just listening from the right and the left channel. Instead of "some" it sounds more like "sue", I dunno. It sounds sort of like he says I in the background, too. The "sue" part or "some" or whatever sounds like he should be saying "you". I don't know, anyone else have any ideas about that?

When they play it live they show a video that flashes the faces of politicians like Bush and Cheney, etc. and it says something like "all governments are lying to you" over and over and then they go into the song.

Sugar Ray – Every Morning Lyrics 18 years ago
My BFFFFLOL and I had this conversation about the "halo" thing. We've come to a conclusion.

He's sees the condom (the halo) and is upset about it because he knows she's cheating on him. So he will see if he "can use it" as an excuse to cheat one her. Which is what he means when he says "I know it's not mine but I'll see if I can use it for the weekend or a one night stand"

Super Furry Animals – (Drawing) Rings Around the World Lyrics 18 years ago
"At the time we were really fancying ourselves as a vocal band, so there's me and Bunf and Cian and Daf harmonising away on top of a rock 'n' roll pop song. It's a recurring communicative theme – the air that we breathe is full of people talking crap. Its one of my girlfriend's dad's theories, because there's radio waves everywhere, and if you visualised all these waves then the earth would be surrounded by this network of rings and pollution and junk. We spent a night phoning around the world. We'd get the national code and then try random numbers. We thought we'd make this amazing collage but it's just a collection of these irate people being woken up at four o'clock in the morning. The American Embassy in Madagascar, a record shop in Osaka, a record company in Australia..."

"Again it is about the earth around the millennium and how we'll have this space debris of satellites, so we'll have rings around like Saturn but they'll be TV sets and bits of satellite."

Both quotes from Gruff Rhys.

Super Furry Animals – Alternate Route To Vulcan Street Lyrics 18 years ago
"The title is an actual road sign, right near the Canadian border outside Detroit. We'd taken a wrong turning in the van. It's quite a striking sign to be confronted with. It has no Trekkie connotations at all: it's very much of this earth. The music was written by Cian and Bunf on samplers late at night, and the rest of us played or sung over it. I think its one of the best sounding pieces on the album. It's a song about impending deluge – it could be applied to global warming." -Gruff Rhys

of Montreal – Lysergic Bliss Lyrics 18 years ago
It's not about LSD, or at least not entierly. Here is a quote from an interview Kevin Barnes did in 2004:

Well, there are some songs on the new record that I wrote for Nina, my wife, that are just love songs. "Your Magic is Working," "Lysergic Bliss," also "Climb the Ladder."
