Radiohead – Videotape Lyrics 16 years ago
I know what you mean about the fact suicide is a hot topic in songs booboo mcbad. Maybe suicide is the wrong term maybe self euthanasia which is still the same thing but means he is not in the debillitating state that he could be if he died from the disease. I know the suicide topic comes out a lot in songs but this like all radiohead songs doesn't go for the conventional approach. I think that line about "Mephistopheles" is key to the whole song and puts the whole thing into perspective for me anyway. It just sounds like he's a nice guy who has a terminal illness and probably deserves to go to heaven but he realises by ending it he won't go to heaven. Just my thoughts man but I love this song its the stand out for me on the album and I love the whole album.

You are quite right though that everyone always jumps on the suicide bandwagon I'd like to think that I put a bit more thought into than that though. Cheers for posting a response man.

to further my earlier comment the line "When Mephistopheles is just beneath
And he's reaching up to grab me" would tie in with suicide because in christianity suicide is a sin which would mean you would end up going to hell which Mephistopheles is another form of the devil. So it may be that he has got a terminal illness and is leaving a videotape behind for somebody possibly a young son/daughter but he doesn't want the child to see him in a worsened state so he ends it. again I don't know if this has already been touched upon.

I agree with the last comment but also feel that this is is a multi layered song and could also be about suicide. My reason for this and I'm not sure if anyone else has said this but the drumming towards the end of the song starts to sound like a train when it is slowing down on the tracks. Anyone who has been on a train will know what I mean. So maybe he is considering throwing himself in front of a train because he can't deal with something like a terminal illness or maybe even more. Anyway thats just my thoughts.

Bob Dylan – Bob Dylan's 115th Dream Lyrics 16 years ago
I can't believe there are not that many comments on this song it is amazing. I wasn't really into Bob Dylan but appreciated his contribution to music then I heard this and was blown away now I can't get enough of him. This song must have definetly been an influence on Nick Cave. Thats just my opinion anyway.

Depeche Mode – New Dress Lyrics 17 years ago
I bought a "best of" depeche mode album a few years ago and it just became part of my collection. I then played it when I had some friends around and realised what I had been missing so I bought further albums which is when I stumbled accross this song. I'm saying all this because I think this song is amazing and is so apt today it is unbelievable. I think everyone has covered what the song means I just wanted to put my personal feeling down.

Sepultura – Altered State Lyrics 17 years ago
I think this song is about corruption in some religions and how through the ages certain religions have manipulated there religion to what they want people to believe. "no one knows the nameless" I think refers to gods name being excluded from most bibles. "censored ideas, counterfeit answers" would support the idea of religious leaders only telling followers what they want them to know. "crossing with blind eyes" makes me think of all the people who blindly follow because they don't have a true understanding.

The Smashing Pumpkins – This Time Lyrics 17 years ago
I believe that this song is about the break up of the band like other people have said but I also feel that it is a good break up song in general. It reminds me of an ex (I know cliche) we broke up because she wanted to go traveling and I didn't. We loved each other and should have been together but we're not. We see each other from time to time as mates and the lyric "Someday we'll wave hello, and wish we'd never waved goodbye
to this romance" always sticks in my head.

R.E.M. – These Days Lyrics 17 years ago
I this song is directed at young people and how they can make the difference to this society. The lyric "I had a hat and it sunk
Reached down, yanked it up, slapped it on my head" I feel is about having dreams and sometimes the dreams sink but you can achieve them if you put them back into your head and work at them. There is a positive message in this song and I think a political one too in that "governments don't rule theyre people people rule theyre governments." People seem to just walk around thinking they can't make a difference but everyone can!

Oh and dominic chad is obsessed with Winnie the pooh too. The album is a dedication to both pooh bear and Brian Jones.

Mansun – Witness to a Murder (Part Two) Lyrics 17 years ago
This is about the conspiracy theory that Brian Jones from the rolling stones was murdered by somebody he knew. When Brian Jones drowned the coronary report said that there wasn't enough substances or alcohol in his body to cause him to drown. This album is a homage to Brian Jones and there are alot of reference to him in the artwork and songs. Mainly Winnie the pooh as Brian Jones lived and drowned in the house that was once owned by A. A. Milne writer of the winnie the pooh novels.

Mansun – Stripper Vicar Lyrics 17 years ago
Very funny song but I think that it has a serious side about people in positions of respect or power and the moral dilema of whether to let people know what they really get up to when they think nobody is watching.

Mansun – Special/Blown It (Delete As Appropriate) Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is obviously about someone who was going to be the next big thing but has "blown it" and is now reclusive but constantly thinks what could of been. Quite sad really.

Eels – Agony Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is about not fulfilling your dreams. A person who made many plans when he/she was younger and the plans made them happy but before they knew it time caught up with them and they find that really they acheived nothing and its left them feeling empty.

Eels – That's Not Really Funny Lyrics 18 years ago
I agree with attractive cousin but Im not sure about Acolyte saying that he is taking his revenge. I think that he is saying his partner has made fun of him being small in public and now other people are laughing at him. The last line says it all

"The little boy will wipe his nose bacause it's runny
Then point at me and laugh, but that's not really funny "

A boy with a runny nose is quite specific because you would find that amusing but if that boy turned, pointed and laughed at you, you would be freaked out as to what he was laughing at. Pure and simple bruised ego.

Eels – Electro-Shock Blues Lyrics 18 years ago
This song reminds me of a friend of mine who suffers with scizophrenia but is trying to cope without taking his medication. Every now and again it gets the better of him and he has to start taking his pills again.

Eels – Ugly Love Lyrics 18 years ago
My interpretation of this song is that his love is different to normal love he can't show it like most people and sometimes suffers in love because of this. I think its basically trying to say that allthough he may not be able to show his love because he has low self esteem his love is real.

I love the line "I do some stupid things

And this I know" I can relate to that so much.
This is a song of no regrets.

Jefferson Airplane – Somebody to Love Lyrics 18 years ago
I read somewhere that Grace Slick was having relationships with several guys in the band at the same time which would tie in with the whole "and your friends baby they treat you like a guest" lyric allthough I think this song was from a band Grace was in before she joined Jefferson Airplane.

Soulfly – Babylon Lyrics 18 years ago
Possibly about false religion getting involved with war as in "babylon the great" from revelations. Babylon the great gets drunk with power off the united nations but they are going to turn on her. This would explain the "Desolation Seperation Sufferation Confrontation" Modern day Babylon is still in ruins.
