Feels to me like a song about being very introverted and coming to terms with that. "I repair myself when you're not there" -- introverts often need alone time after social interaction or heavy stimulation to rebuild or recharge. I think the song is about realizing it's okay to want to be alone, to want to shy away from the limelight or whatever. Others may not be that way, and that's okay. |

I think this song is amazing lyrically. The way it all flows and rhymes so perfectly. I particularly love
"Deception and perfection are wonderful traits, one will breed love, the other hate"
I love this this because it can go either way. They can both breed love and hate, and oftentimes perfection a IS just deception.
I don't find the song particularly relatable and it isn't a personal favorite, but I think it's lyrically and sonically one of the best on Electra Heart |

I believe it's about wanting to not be defined by others, Marina did say so herself. I don't think it's about one specific type of person defining you, but rather can apply to any situation where others are trying to define you. For Marina, the media is an easy example but it goes further than that. I also could have sworn she said she wrote this because of something her mother did to inspire her. |

For me personally this song touches on exactly what it was like to go through a certain relationship with someone from my past. It was friends with benefits at first and turned to "love", but it was all lies. Every single word is exactly something I experienced in that relationship and it hits so close to home. I mean every single word. It's very sad, as a song, and to experience such a thing. I would have rather pretended he actually loved me than admit that it wasn't gonna fit. Because it was too painful. I am happy to be out of that situation but the song remains to this day as a painful reminder of that time, and a reminder as to why I never want to go down that road again. |

@[BoyPrincess32:27080] I could not agree with you more about this song. I have always felt the same way, freedom from abuse. For me it was freedom from my emotionally and verbally abusive mother. Literally every word fits so perfectly. Listening to and singing along to this song is very cathartic for me for that reason. |

This song's central theme + Hollywood's central theme really remind me of the themes on Electra Heart. The content, metaphors, themes... it's all very similar and in my own mind I like to pretend that the seeds for Electra Heart were planted in Marina's head early on, even just as passing thoughts & ideas she had on the concept of the archetypes. If that makes sense. :P |

I think this song is about depression, isolation and certain symptoms/conditions that can go along with that such as depersonalization, derealization, and even dissociation. Not only feeling disconnected because one isolates oneself, or one doesn't feel socially competent, but also feeling quite literally disconnected ("it's just a bird's eye view from up above", people who experience dissociation often describe it as watching oneself from above). When one experiences these things they often sort of feel dead inside, like they cannot experience life fully or experience emotions fully. I say all of this because I suffer from these things firsthand, and I feel Marina describes it perfectly here. Based on what we know about her history, I wouldn't be surprised if she has experienced this to some extent. |

This song feels like it's a tribute and/or sequel to Woe--somehow. The drums throughout most of the song, as well as the tempo and the way he sings the lyrics, are just so similar to Woe. And Woe is my favorite Say Anything song, so this song definitely sticks out for me. |
