Natalie Imbruglia – Diving in the Deep End Lyrics | 8 years ago |
I think this song is about being constantly disappointed by love, but continuing to risk everything to try to find it. She is saying that despite her better judgement she is going to take a chance on this new person she has acquired feelings for, but she is once again disappointed. She's been dating around since she was 14 and it's still the same old thing after all this time, after becoming an adult, nothing is changing, she is still continuing to experience disappointment after disappointment. |
Árstíðir – You Again Lyrics | 8 years ago |
I heard this on a music channel on Charter Cable a couple of months ago and it is absolutely captivating on so many levels. The romantic piano is simplistic yet conveys such a deep feeling of wonder and sorrow. As for the lyrics, I am going to interpret them: When he asks "if love had the answers, why aren't you here?" he is commenting on how people put all their hopes and dreams and efforts into love, as if it is the end all be all in life, yet it is so unnattainable, for him anyway. if this thing is supposed to complete him, then why can't he have it? He then goes on to state, "This truth as an obsession had almost disappeared." Logically, he realizes that another person cannot complete him, and in fact has only caused him sorrow, but just when he thought the obsession with finding this unnattainable thing had disappeared, it always seems to come back to haunt him, again and again. He can't help dwelling on the person, and admits, "But when I see you alone far away from home and I wonder why I feel like everything is turning in my head. It’s you again." I think when he says "when I see you alone far away from home," he is referring to someone who left and seems to be perfectly happy with their decision. Maybe they went away to school, or decided to travel the world, or just moved out of the house they were sharing after breaking up. All he knows is that person seems to be perfectly happy being alone without him and it breaks his heart. He wonders why he can't just "get over it" the way this person seems to have gotten over it and moved on. The thought keeps turning over and over in his head again and again, and it's not fair that he is seemingly inconsequential to this person, yet can't seem to get over them. This person was, "Taken by the unknown. Heart into stone. Never cease to wonder why and everything keeps turning in my head." He doesn't really know why they left, and it almost seems like the person is just cold hearted and never seemed to have any real feelings for him. He can't reconcile the fact that this person previously loved him, but now they don't seem to care at all. What happened? It seems like he'll never find the answer, but he can't help but keep wondering 'why?' Now he starts reflecting on his life, when he says, "This solitude I found. No more voices ringing in my ears. A world without a sound. Just the silent music of the spheres." He is thinking about how the only way he has found any sort of peace of mind is by simply staying away from relationships altogether. He blocks out anyone else's attempts to get through to him and break through the silence and coldness. He has basically shut down his emotions and has thrown himself into his music so that he can try to forget about what he had with this person. He still has his regrets, when he says, " If I had the answers you should be here (and still this unresolved progression had never seemed so real)." If he could only find the answer, maybe he could make a change to get the person to come back to him, but they are so far from the life he has now that it seems impossible. The answer will always illude him and never be "resolved". He uses the word "progression" because that is a musical term that denotes the sequence of chords in a song. When you resolve the chord progression you get a sense of "completeness". He knows he won't be complete until the progression is figured out, but he can't figure out what comes next. He can't find any closure. |
Heart – Bebe Le Strange Lyrics | 8 years ago |
It's almost like she is mocking someone who she thinks is conceited (another performer perhaps), so they gave him a nickname to make fun of him. Maybe he's one of those guys who likes to take on a wacky persona for the stage (someone like David Bowie or Alice Cooper) and she is mocking the pretension of his performance by calling him Bebe Le Strange. That said, she can't help feeling attracted to this person because of the fact that he's so weird and "out there," which is a thing that seems to work on some women. It could also just be a song about a fan letter they received. |
Katy Perry – Thinking of You Lyrics | 9 years ago |
Does anyone else wonder who she wrote this song about? |
Florence + the Machine – No Light, No Light Lyrics | 9 years ago |
@[jenjen26:1849] I literally started crying when I read this sentence: "That feeling of not being worth a second chance is the worst feeling." So true. It's like you never even existed to that person. |
Yes – Survival Lyrics | 9 years ago |
@[groovyman7:1364] This song doesn't sound like its about abortion at all... It sounds more like its about how people feel abandoned in life, but they are really worth something. Don't give up on your life and where you're going. Even though good things come to an end, there are always new beginnings. Actually, it could almost be interpreted as a song for someone who has had a miscarriage as well. |
Katy Perry – Who Am I Living For? Lyrics | 9 years ago |
If you watch the documentary Katy Perry: Part of Me, this song is used when they are talking about how she was struggling to get famous and the record company she was signed under wasn't letting her write the music she wanted or do the type of performances she wanted. "Who am I living for?" in that context could mean that she was asking herself "Do I want to be the type of performer I want to be? Do I want to be myself? Or do I want to live for what these record executives say I should do? Who am I really doing this for?" Eventually she got a contract with Capitol Records and they were much more flexible with her writing and performing her music more true to her own vision. In light of how the song is portrayed in the documentary, I'm more inclined to say it really has nothing to do with "living for god" or any other religious interpretation, but the biblical metaphors are simply used as a device to convey what was going on in her life at that time. In the documentary Katy admits she still believes in god, but she believes her own interpretation, which is always growing and changing, so it is hard to say if she is even really a Christian, but maybe more of a "spiritual" person. |
Bread – The Other Side of Life Lyrics | 12 years ago |
My interpretation is that the narrator is talking to himself. He's advising himself to be careful with his heart and to take his time finding himself before he's ready to pursue the right woman. Once he reaches his goal of finding himself, he'll be ready for her, whoever she is, because he'll know himself better, and will therefore be able to make better decisions regarding his love life. |
Christina Aguilera – You Lost Me Lyrics | 13 years ago |
When she says "I feel like our world's been infected" its as if she is saying she can no longer see the good in anyone ever again. to think she put all this trust in this person, and he let her down, it seems as if there is no way to decipher whether or not someone is really a good person and really worthy of your time and effort. so the world feels dirty and worthless and dead and infected. there is nothing redeeming about it because you can't trust people anymore. all you can feel is a disgusting sense of illness about the world and it makes you sick. |
Imogen Heap – Closing In Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song reminds me about how this one guy told me he liked me and made all these sweeping overtures and then suddenly disappeared and stopped talking to me after telling me he wanted to be with me. After awhile of waiting I finally got up the courage to ask him if he didn't want to see me anymore and he said he was "scared of commitment" and was still feeling emotions from a recent break up. "No word, no nothing. You didn't hold me for any long. Did you walk for the fear of love? Oh don't you believe enough?" I still wish I could see him and tell him how I really feel, but it wouldn't make a difference. He's still sprung over that other girl. |
Secret Garden – You Raise Me Up Lyrics | 14 years ago |
You know, I wonder why most people who hear this song give it some kind of religious connotation, but I really don't see the connection at all. There is no mention of Jesus or any god. There is vague mention of "eternity" but that could mean almost anything really (and if it is religious, who's to say its Christian or Judeo-Christian inspired at all?). When I hear this song its about someone who is going through some trials and there is that special someone (maybe a friend, family member or husband/wife) who they know they can always turn to and will help them no matter what. Not sure why everyone has to make it out to be some gospel thing. I guess its the godspot in their head *shrug* |

Luca Turilli – Kyoto's Romance Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Seriously though... flipping EPIC. |
Tarja Turunen – Oasis Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I was really reluctant to listen to this album or Nightwish's new album, but I'm glad I listened to both because they both have something to offer. I just wish they both could have combined their efforts to make one amazing album instead of breaking up. In any case, I love this song, and I love how it flows into the next one, "Poison". |
After Forever – Transitory Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"Life: all you've got, all was swept away Now you see what there is to miss Suddenly you're stronger than you thought As you know it's transitory" Basically, what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. When you let go of everything that's hindering you, you can make progress. |
After Forever – Discord Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It sounds like she thinks that lonliness is a good reason to stay together, despite all their disagreements, but what she doesn't realize is that it just makes them unhappier staying together. He wants to end it, but she doesn't because she still has hope. She doesn't understand why the good thing they had is dying when she asks "but why?" |
After Forever – Empty Memories Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"We know only hatred There's no future in our anguish, for all hope is buried with life And reprisal will be ours" sounds like someone who is desperately sad and lonely, but they also want revenge. they want to take from their enemy what their enemy took from them. |
After Forever – Who I Am Lyrics | 16 years ago |
To me this wasn't about homosexuality. It was more about a dual personality, or it could be about a lot women's struggles with anger. When we're angry and want to take control people think of us as bitches and dont' take us seriously. When we're sweet and subdued we rarely get what we want because we're thought of as weak and easily taken advantage of. Same thing wtih sexuality in general. If a woman persues men openly and vervently, she is thought in of as a slut or a whore. When she is sweet and subdued she rarely gets what she wants a man. When floor sings you hear sort of a middle eastern style of music, and in the middle east women are very submissive and are forced into submission. But for all I know it could just be about lesbians :P |
After Forever – Equally Destructive Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I agree with musicmama888 |
Alanis Morissette – That I Would Be Good Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think this song is a prayer. If you add the words "I pray" to each line you'll find it says things like "I pray that I would be good" etc, etc. Or maybe it's just a hope or a wish, not necessarily a prayer. depends on your interpretation i guess. i think overall, this song basically says she wants to be a good person, no matter what. |
Dark Moor – A New World Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Wow, this song is so true ^_^ I like how fanciful they made it sound lol |
Nightwish – Ghost Love Score Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I disagree with "leekonghian". Tuomas has often made the comparison of what he has suffered in love to the anguish that Christ suffered in the garden before He was Crusified. That doesn't necessarily mean the song actually has a Christian theme or that it's about anything Biblical at all. Granted I think it's pretty obvious that at least a few of the members of Nightwish are Christian, but that's not what I see this particular song being about. I think I agree mostly with some of the other comments made here. Two people who are in love grew apart and one is still in love with the other. |
Dido – Thank You Lyrics | 16 years ago |
There is only one person I have ever felt this way for, and now they are gone from my life :( |
Epica – Solitary Ground Lyrics | 16 years ago |
try Within Temptation, Luca Turilli's Dreamquest and Lacuna Coil |
Epica – Façade of Reality (The Embrace That Smothers Part V) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I agree with origin that its about terrorism because there's a voice clip talking about the people who died on september 11th. "And people created religious ascensions To subject the others and to enslave, just to further enrich themselves " I also think this song can refer to many different religions because there's always a reocurring theme in organized religion where we see people forcing others into subserviance because it's "god's will" or it's "destiny". |
Apocalyptica – Path Vol. 2 (Feat. Sandra Nasic) Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Nightwish – Devil & the Deep Dark Ocean (feat. Tapio Wilska) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
it sounds to me like an innocent woman is in love with some sort of evil being. she says "i prayed for pleasure, wished for love, prayed for your-" and is cut off by the male voice saying "never pray for me". maybe its about a woman with stolkholm syndrome lol |

this reminds me of Peter Pan for some reason. |
Nightwish – The Carpenter Lyrics | 18 years ago |
"They tell me to lie on the grass and observe my saviour The one crucified to the chirping of birds" i dunno......sounds a bit like Jesus if you ask me, FallenRose24. anyways the song is about what it means to YOU. your interpretation doesnt necessarily have to coincide with what the artist thinks it means. besides.........i've seen thousands of music videos that had jack diddly squat to do with the song. i mean take a look at the video for "Wish I had an angel"......they are just standing in a random place playing and looking pretty......has nothing to do with the lyrics lol. |

well you know vince was an alcoholic and his marriage suffered a great deal from it. fortunately he quit alcohol and saved his marriage and kept his family together. not sure if thats what this song is about. maybe he just randomly wrote it like the person above me said, but it does kind of tie into his life. |

yes, why cant we just enjoy a good song without having to attach some premisconcieved notion of drug use that somoene else has associated with the song. lets quit with the assumptions. this box asks " waht does the song mean to YOU?" not everyone elses opinion. |
