This song is for sure about drugs, not a girl. The first two stanzas are about taking the drugs, the second two are about coming down. The last bit, about 'she hears me' and all, is more vague but i think its him trying (and probably failing) to convince himself that the drugs are worth it.
If you've ever just sat in your room and taken drugs byself all lonely like all night long, you'll immediately understand, love, and hate this song. |

I think this song is describing what it is to be a musician (or perhaps more accuratly a lyricist). In trying to explain/understand/clarify things to people (the listeners), they are like scientists. In trying to show/display things to people (perhaps things they already know but can't put into words), they are like journalists. In trying to heal people with their music and words, they are pharmacists. But in trying to do all this for others, they lose themselves (but for GbV at least, thats ok, as the closing lines would indicate). |

I always thought it was hard in the first stanza when the chick is singing and hot when in the second when the guy is singing.

The bit about the desert wind made me think it was more about Desert Storm or the current conflict in the Middle East. Now I know Guantanamo Bay is in Cuba, is it also a desert (this would be news to me)? |
