Jai Paul – Zion Wolf Lyrics | 4 years ago |
reminds me of his dark materials. js. |
CocoRosie – Werewolf Lyrics | 7 years ago |
I dunno, I don't have the whole song figured out or nothin', but the first stanza has Hamlet's Ophelia all over it. Father's power, young brother, sexual burgeoning, drawn to the water, flowers in the water, a grave, then a willow tree?! Yeah dudes. It's for real. |
Purity Ring – Ungirthed Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Adorable? If this were a male vocal, you wouldn't be calling this beat adorable. How about fucking ILL, well-made, eerie or any other adjective that gives this beat the justice it deserves? Female electronic artists have an awful lot of devaluing to deal with. Don't add to it. http://actuallygrimes.tumblr.com/post/48744769552/i-dont-want-to-have-to-compromise-my-morals-in-order |
Purity Ring – Fineshrine Lyrics | 11 years ago |

Gregory and the Hawk – Voice Like A Bell Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Thankfully it hasn't been put to such an egregious use. |
Patrick Wolf – Beastiality Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Yes, Jesus Christ vicariously has sex with animals. Amen. |
Patrick Wolf – Beastiality Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Also I was listening to PW before anyone knew who he was. Now I'm bored. Seeing what I wrote about him when I was 17 is amusing, however. |
Patrick Wolf – Beastiality Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Hahaha. Is this for real? Did you write that while writhing around in a yiff pile? Sorry. I get it. Animals that wear human clothes. |
Bowerbirds – Beneath Your Tree Lyrics | 12 years ago |
this is the most beautiful love song i have ever heard. |
The Avett Brothers – Love Like the Movies Lyrics | 12 years ago |
We can't be in love like the movies because our love is real. |
Beirut – Port of Call Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Uuunnnggggh this is beautiful. |
Wye Oak – Civilian Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Definitely amend. |
The Everybodyfields – By Your Side Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song rips my heart out. |
The Low Anthem – Ticket Taker Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I'm so surprised no one's commented on this song. It's gorgeous. Such a sweet love song tinged around the edges with the prescience of apocalypse. Perhaps the ticket-taker is not the best choice for a society that feeds on itself, values the men who "can afford the arc," but he is certainly the best choice for when he is the only arc, above the chaos with his solid valuables. There is also something pitiable in the narrator's hanging around an "old river town" stockpiling weapons, presumably waiting for both a woman and the collapse. Another reading could be that the monotony of ticket-taking has wound up his psyche and made him into what Sherwood Anderson might call a grotesque-- someone fixated on only one aspect of their existence so as to ignore all other aspects and thereby turn in on themselves, exemplifying some spiritual malaise. I see this most prominent in that "Marianne" most likely snubbed him for a richer gentleman, and as a perfectly reasonable reaction, the ticket-taker has to make up for his lack of wealth in some other way. When she comes back to him after the sky caves in, he won't rub it in her face TOO much. TL;DR It's one of the prettiest, most lyrically interesting songs I've heard in a long while. |
Mount Eerie – O My Heart Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Song Islands version: What I find will be found easily And only when I'm not looking for it. Without looking for the morning in the sunset. And like this my will to live hides implied in my heart beating; without looking for fulfillment but accepting it. What's this? Are you my heart? And are you thumping? O my heart. Oh there you are. I had stopped hunting. I thought you would be as big as a whale. My nets were knit. My harpoons on, my hunting ship sailed. And oh my heart there you are, moth's nest in my hair. O my heart. O sleepy heart what do you say? Should we keep loving? (Yes) |
mewithoutYou – In a Sweater Poorly Knit Lyrics | 15 years ago |
You don't need to be Christian to enjoy mewithoutYou. This song is seriously powerful. |
Patrick Wolf – Beastiality Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I was, at the time, talking about him personally. I hadn't felt like I'd heard him express as directly that part of his OWN personality before. |
The Cure – Play with Me Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Lolita. |
Silversun Pickups – Well Thought Out Twinkles Lyrics | 16 years ago |
katexvi is right, it's obviously about Harry Potter. |
Atom and His Package – Upside Down From Here Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I know this is an old song, but... Whether or not there is a literal event behind the song, it is obviously about the overwhelming nature of distance and direction. When I listen, as corny as it is, I feel like I'm tumbling around in space, completely without a sense of bearing or horizon. That is what it feels like when one travels a great deal-- a complete loss of one's bearing, horizon and home. The metaphor is how different the size of the earth is on a map. In a trice you can trace your journey, but the distance is enormous and humbling. |
Interpol – Pace Is the Trick Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Lioness, to me, is the same as empress. |
Electrasy – Cosmic Castaway Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It's "lost thoughts". Certainly about being lost in an existence of cosmic influence and uncontrollable change; dreaming of heroism but drowned in inanity. Very fitting to the movie. And definitely the best song out of Electrasy. |
Against Me! – Turn Those Clapping Hands into Angry Balled Fists Lyrics | 18 years ago |
sidewalk91, it is probably true that they do, but that may be partly their point. We all live this life in this society, but we do not all speak out. |
AFI – The Interview Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Indeed, i-fell-into-fantasy, I just came here to confirm by way of the Despair Faction. It is Jade. DaLocoBrat, I like to agree with you. However, in The Prayer Position, the lyrics are "Pushed to our knees so let us pray/ And all together we'll bring the real rain." They could be referencing themselves. |
AFI – The Interview Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I wonder who is singing at the end. It sound like Jade, but there were an awful lot of guests on this album. |
Patrick Wolf – Pumpkin Soup Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The end of childhood captured flawlessly. |
Patrick Wolf – Beastiality Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This is a part of Patrick that we've never really seen: that there is an animalistic part of him; he can be angry, unrelenting. He has accepted that it is a part of his nature, and he hasn't any reason to be sorry for it. It seems he's singing more about solving some sort of issue. In any case, it sends shivers all around my skin. |
Patrick Wolf – Get Lost Lyrics | 18 years ago |
He so sounds like Chet Baker, too. How I love this man! |
Patrick Wolf – Godrevy Point Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The live recordings of this are so raw, you can taste the richness of his voice in the back of your throat. Especially on the XFM version when he sings The Towans, it stretches my heart. |
Patrick Wolf – The Hairy Song Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Added this without realizing the other one was already posted :/ |
Patrick Wolf – Empress Lyrics | 18 years ago |
P.S. http://www.myspace.com/bishimusic :] |
Patrick Wolf – Empress Lyrics | 18 years ago |
My theory is that this song is about the woman who is "basically my soulmate", Bishi. They've known each other since about the age of 11, but had a terrible falling out within the last few years. |
Patrick Wolf – Penzance Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I can't listen to this without weeping. It honestly dredges up emotion I was barely aware I possessed; I do believe it is my favorite of Sir Loveliness's songs. |
Patrick Wolf – The Hairy Song (Demo) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song was written for a compilation on the emotionality of hair in art. Patrick has no obsession with his hair, only unbridled talent. |
AFI – Miss Murder Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I need to hear how this song fits with the rest of its mother album before I can strike an opinion. |
Patrick Wolf – Penzance Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Interesting interpretation. Have I misrepresented a lyric? |
Coheed and Cambria – The Camper Velourium III: Al the Killer Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Newo is a girl, and is a character. What her role in the story is is open to interpretation, but she is most definitely a character. Instead of evil ink, you could just go to www.cobaltandcalcium.com and sign up for the boards. |
Coheed and Cambria – The Camper Velourium I: Faint of Hearts Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Stupid? No, I'd say the most of you are incapable of seeing beneath the thin veneer of "his gun". Of course he has a gun. He's a sniper. As I've said, he probably has a very large amount of guns. And yes, I see now that my earlier theory of handing Newo over to Al is outdated and probably wrong, but I still refuse to believe that this song is exclusively about him having a conversation with his gun. He's crazy, but not that crazy. The "gun" reperesents a gun, yes, but also (and moreseo) his murderous impulses. Again, figurative language. And just because we don't find out that Al is racist until Al the Killer doesn't mean we can't speculate (and in fact already KNOW) that he is a rapist, racist killer. |
AFI – Wester Lyrics | 18 years ago |
P.S. The definition of "wester" is: west·er n. A strong wind coming from the west. intr.v. west·ered, west·er·ing, west·ers To move westward. Used of the sun, the moon, or a star. |
AFI – Wester Lyrics | 18 years ago |
That was weird, I wasn't able to finish my comment. For those who do not know the story, the two main characters are something of Adam and Eve figures, but both from different worlds. They come of age together and in doing so flood their worlds, and all others, with something called Dust (which is a kind of salvation...difficult to explain without reading the series). They are in love in every way possible, but they must each return to their own worlds or else all that they have done will fall apart. On every equinox (I believe it is), they return to one specific spot that is very similar in both of their worlds, and can almost detect each other's presence. I suggest everyone read the His Dark Materials Trilogy by Philip Pullman, and join the Despair Faction. |
AFI – Wester Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song greatly reminds me of the His Dark Materials Trilogy. |
311 – Lovesong (The Cure cover) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I say to 311: hands off. Anyone who understands The Cure's genius would never like this song over the original. |
The Blood Brothers – My First Kiss at the Public Execution Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I believe this song is about the connection human beings make with sex and death. To vaguely quote Margaret Atwood, there is no other specie on earth in which impending death acts as an aprhodesiac. I also agree mostly with what has already been said: a fascination with the macabre. |
Alkaline Trio – Dethbed Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song is rather obviously an implied death of some sort. Which kind, who knows or cares? I do believe the timb-bomb lyrics and such are referring to heart break. |
Alkaline Trio – Dethbed Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Coheed and Cambria – The Camper Velourium I: Faint of Hearts Lyrics | 18 years ago |
He may be in the new one, but I seriously doubt that it is a love triangle with Al. I personally believe that Al is a little too far gone emotionally for the pettiness of "love triangles". |
Alkaline Trio – Smoke Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Upon more scrutinizing, I can now see and appreciate the logic. Please excuse my insolence. Great apologies. |
Alkaline Trio – Smoke Lyrics | 18 years ago |
How could anyone look at this song's lyrics and believe that it has anything to do with smoking? Perhaps there is something happening in Dan's life that had to do with smoking or the act of quitting such, but I sincerely believe that the smoke reference in this song has to do with, you know, what's mentioned: speed. The movement and speed of said word: smoke. Which also means, of course, that I disapprove of the notion that he's saying anything other than "fast as smoke". Anything else is absurd. |
