I like this song a lot. Obviously the islands are girls that he is/has been in a relationship with. It really works as a metaphor. |

"Grønland" is both the Norwegian name for Greenland, and the name of a neighborhood in Oslo. I believe he's referring to the latter. |

Jonas Brothers – Move On Lyrics

This song is amazing, I love how harsh it is. I don't know, it makes the brothers seem more real when they actually have real feelings, including hate.
Best line:
get over it, your friends are so much hotter |

The Stooges – Search and Destroy Lyrics

The line "Look out honey, 'cause I'm using technology!" sounds so foreign now. It sounds as if the word "technology" is meant to represent something advanced and scary, while nowadays the word is thrown around to mean any electronic gadget! |

If I were to give this song an award, it would be Song With Shittiest Metaphors.
God, I hate this song's lyrics. :/ The melody is okay, though slightly plain and boring, but the lyrics are ridiculous. :) |

Hole – Old Age Lyrics
|
I think this is a pretty good song. And who the fuck cares if Kurt wrote it? It isn't as if Courtney tied him to a chair and forced him to write her a song. He gave it to her willingly. Plus, she's several times admitted she didn't write it in interviews, though she never said it was Kurt, probably knowing that people would only make a big deal out of it.
Here's what Courtney had to say about Old Age in 1997: "Old Age is partly someone else's composition. It's something somebody had a little bit of and I said 'let me have the rest of it' and I wrote this thing in it and tried to make it goth. I found it, wrote it, and recorded it the same night."
You can tell that this is more Kurt-style than Courtney-style lyrics, though. Fuck, it says KURT all over it with the way it's written. Especially the first verse and the chorus. |

Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit Lyrics
|
Nono. Kathleen Hanna, of Bikini Kill, wrote "Kurt smells like Teen Spirit" on Kurt's wall, because she thought he smelled like the deodorant his girlfriend used, Tobi Vail who was also in Bikini Kill. Alas, she meant Kurt's girlfriend's deodorant had rubbed off on him. |

person above me: really? Are you sure? I've never heard that before. As far as I can tell, Kurt started hating the song after it became widely popular.
And lolwtf to the all caps entry up there. |

Nirvana – Aneurysm Lyrics

By the way, I completely agree with that just because he was a junkie doesn't mean every song was about drugs, but dammit, I'm pretty sure this one is. Even if no other songs are. |

Nirvana – Aneurysm Lyrics

I have to say I think it's about heroin. An old girlfriend? That just doesn't make sense. While the heroin meaning, it's way more clear. Maybe it's a double meaning, but it is definitely meant to be about drugs some how. I mean,..
Come on over and do the twist / shoot the shit
- Obvious. Come on over and we'll do the drug.
Overdo it and have a fit
- Do too much and overdose.
Love you so much it makes me sick
- Makes him sick that he loves it so much, or he litterally becomes sick of doing it too much. |

Pagoda – The Happy Song Lyrics

Seems like a pretty sarcastic song, mocking all the songs with lyrics about how awful life is and how sad they are. For example, the lines like "And I’ve been so lost and found, I can’t smile, I can’t frown" and "I made you in my head and you don’t even care, you don’t care".
Hm. A Nirvana B-side was called "Born In A Junkyard". Connection? |

Pagoda – Fetus Lyrics
|
My favorite Pagoda fan without doubt. I especially love the part after "I found it beneath the junk".
I'm a bit puzzled by the lyrics, though. The "I think of you" verses seem to be about the fetus inside his baby's stomach, ie pregnant girlfriend;
I'm guessing - girlfriend says she's pregnant, he thinks that all the shit he carries will also be in the baby, but the thought of a baby alone is sucking the dispair out of the world for him. Then, I think she got an abortion. Even though they could feel the soul inside the stomach, they killed the fetus. And somehow it benefits him.
Yeah, I'm probably way off. For all I know, fetus might be some wild metaphor for something else. |

Nirvana – The Man Who Sold the World (David Bowie cover) Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
So why are people looking for the meaning of this song here, seeing as it's a cover? Head over to the Bowie section, people! :)
Devildog: I'm sorry, but you're the moron. I agree that Pat Smear was mostly brought in to make the sound rounder, but I also read somewhere in an interview or something that Kurt confessed he had goldfish memory and couldn't remember most of the chords for his songs. And this is where Pat Smear comes in. If it had to do with smack or not is up to you to decide.
And I really have no respect for people who whenever making a Nirvana related post starts shouting about the evil bitch Courtney Love and how she murdered Kurt. Can't, just for ONCE, discuss Nirvana without taking a stand on how Kurt died? (suicide suicide suicide) I'd really like it if he could be remembered as a good musican rather than a murder victim, or in my opinion a SOB who abadoned his daughter. He's an asshole, and I love him. :) |

K's Choice – Everything For Free Lyrics
|
This is how I see it: Billy is at a mental hospital. And he's used to talking to shrinks, which is why he offers to share things like dreams and stories. I think he's not really crazy, at least not as much as everyone else, but he's there because he likes the simplicity of it. He's getting everything he needs for free, and he doesn't have to think about things like what to do or where to go. |

Seether – Fine Again Lyrics
|
Anyway, I've always though that the song is about this guy who just got clean from some addiction. And he always visioned that once he got clean, everything would be perfect, but it's not. Everyone's telling him that he's fine again now, but he still feels empty inside. He's still hoping that everything'll be fine in the end, but he thinks it's going to happen one day too late.
And in the end he's either going back to drugs or making a resolve to stay clean, even though the addiction will never get away from him. Uh, yeah. I'm a little unsure on that part. |

The meaning of this song is pretty obvious, really.
It's so beautiful, though. I originally heard it because I was downloading Jane's Addiction songs from Limewire, and someone had labelled this song as JA. I've never done drugs, but I think this song really somehow says how it is. |

I love these lyrics - they're so beautiful and deep, which a million different metaphores and meanings. Such a brilliant poet, that Kiedis.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Shallow Be Thy Game Lyrics

I don't agree with a lot of your analysis, Jware, but it's a good one still. :)
For example, I think "We are not the center of this funny universe" more resembles the fact that Christians in the old days used to believe that the earth was the center of the universe, and that all other planets and stars went around us, not the other way. People who disagreed with that was killed and burned by Christians. |
