The All-American Rejects – Swing, Swing Lyrics 19 years ago
I typically don't comment on a song to bag on it. I find that pointless and time-wasting, but I must admit the lyrics to this song are very generic, bland and cliched. ("Do you know what it feels like being alone?" "Swing, swing, swing from the tangles of my heart is crushed by a former love.")

I mean, it's catchy, poppy, and all that, but I cannot get passed the poorly developed lyrics. It's still enjoyable when I feel like listening to a song for the tune rather than the lyrics, though. So it gets some props.

The All-American Rejects – Dirty Little Secret Lyrics 19 years ago
Well, I'm far from an AAR's fan. I'm not much into the genre. (I'm more of a metal, hard rock fan) but I met them last week.. and they were the sweetest guys. This song is average. And I concur with the person above who said that it seems she is a mistress to a man who is taken. But then again, it could be about being with a girl and keeping it special by hiding it.

Coldplay – Square One Lyrics 19 years ago
The beginning of this song reminds me of Pink Floyd, as well as the ending of "White Shadows". Am I crazy?

Anyways, as far as my interpretation of this songs, it seems so... layered. The feelings it gives me is undescribable. The music is definitely the strong point of this song, though.

Killers? Not really. More like Pink Floyd. The end of the song, aswell as 'Square One' remind me oddly of Pink Floyd.

Anyways, as far as this song goes, it's quickly become one of my favorite Coldplay songs of all times. It seems to me he's singing about life on the earth. The human race and the beauty of life.

I love the progression of music throughout this song. Absolutely amazing and beautifully done. This song just feels out-of-this-world amazing.

First Dio song I've heard myself, but I've fallen in love with them ever since. Brandon's interpretation seems rather believable. I've never understood or have been able to interpret these lyrics logically in this song.

System of a Down – This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I'm on This Song Lyrics 19 years ago
"Fish" is used in Lost in Hollywood.. "You were the biggest fish out here." Gonorrhea is also mentioned in another SOAD song, too.

As far as interpreting this song, usually, I love a challenge, but I'm not even going to try with this one. I just love Serj's vocal range in the song though. Especially during the lines "I can't see your soul soul through your eyes / the crying walls of sliding architecture / kidnapped by the likes of pure conjecture"

System of a Down – Sad Statue Lyrics 19 years ago
FinalxHour has basically stated it for me. After listening to the song over and over, I've come to nearly the same conclusion.

The reputation of this generation is going down the drain. Because people of next generations aren't here now, they cannot fully comprehend why the US has done what it has (not justifying the war, trust me, I'm far from agreement with it.)

The Statue of Liberty represents freedom, equality and peace to me. The Statue, as referred to in this song, is watching over this country and weeping at weeping at its state.

System of a Down – Lost In Hollywood Lyrics 19 years ago
"I was standing on the wall
Feeling ten feet tall"

That could be referring to Daron's esteem. He felt tall, brave, valiant, but those in Hollywood brought everything about him down.

To me, it's almost somewhat hypocritical, because Daron's dating a stereotypical Hollywood supermodel. Basically, he's singing about how Hollywood chews you up and spits you out, yet he goes out with a Hollywood girl. Don't get me wrong, I love SOAD, they're my favorite band, and I'm not questioning Daron's sincerity; I can by no means judge him. Just an observation.

I second dannymp3. They're at the top, yet they're not afraid to let us all know the truth about fame and what others will think of them criticizing it. Because I can't choose one specific favorite off "Mezmerize", I'll say this is ONE of my favorites off the album.

"What is in us that turns a deaf ear to the cries of human suffering?"

Definitely one of the most powerful songs in a song ever. Already one of my favorites off Mezmerize.

Yeah, this one will definitely be recognized as one of the bests on the album. I downloaded the album myself, but I'm going to buy it this Tuesday and get it signed by the band at Best Buy in Burbank, CA. I can not select a favorite off this album. But this song's message is pretty much manifested throughout the entire thing.

Nine Inch Nails – The Line Begins to Blur Lyrics 19 years ago
Well, after much listen to the song I have come up with my OWN interpretation that probably relates nothing to the song.

"The more I stay in here
The more it's not so clear"
-The more I stay in my situations, my city, with my friends and family members... the more things get to me and confuse me. The more things persist and get worse.

"The more I stay in here
The more I disappear"
-The more I stay here, the more fragments of me are being shattered, and the more I'm being damaged.

"As far as I have gone
I knew what side I'm on"
-Here I take a total U-turn and see Trent singing about knowing what he believed his entire life. His morals, standards, abilities, everything.

"But now I'm not so sure
The line begins to blur "
And now he questions everything he was. Himself. The line symbolizes, to me, everything Trent stood for, but now he's not so sure where he stands in this world, and where he wants to go from here.

Nine Inch Nails – The Great Below Lyrics 19 years ago
Staring at the sea, will she come?
Is there hope for me after all is said and done?
-The “she”, the only one that can save him now. The song begins with a final, desperate cling of hope unto this world. “She” may be referring to a person, an idea, a life style, a thought.

Anything at any price, all of this for you
All the spoils of a wasted life; all of this for you
-Here he’s trying to win over the “she” with anything. He shows the listener that nothing matters in this world; he has no reason to cling onto anything, for his life has been wasted and pointless without whatever it is that makes him whole.

All the world has closed her eyes
Tired faith all worn and thin
-This is the first line in which the loss of hope is being manifested. “All the world has closed her eyes” meaning, to me, the world shutting him out. The world has closed it’s eyes on him and he is nothing.

For all we could have done
And all that could have been
-Simple, yet deep, powerful lines. Contemplating on the fact that nothing will ever happen. The knowing that there is no resolution is settling in. “And all that could have been”… that speaks for itself.

Ocean pulls me close
And whispers in my ear
The destiny I've chose
All becoming clear
The ocean, representing death, is drawing near. He knows, looking back at all his mistakes, that is it time. His destiny set out in front of him. He looks forward and sees what is ahead of him.

The currents have their say
The time is drawing near
-The currents, the atmosphere of the death of his mind. The time is drawing near to the enter the vast ocean.

Washes me away
Makes me disappear
-He’s been swept away by the ocean by jumping off the cliff of life. “Makes him disappear”.

And I descend from grace
In arms of undertow
I will take my place
In the great below
-Descending from everything he ever was; from this world. The arms of undertow, the grasp of depression, of death. “The great below”, meaning to me, the pit of never-ending depression, of loss of hope and desperation.

I can still feel you
even so far away
-Even in this empty void of depression, even after everything is gone, all the feelings and numbness has settled in, he can still feel whatever it is that he admired so dearly. He can still see what it is, yet he can not see himself…

System of a Down – B.Y.O.B. Lyrics 19 years ago
From Revolver magazine: "BYOB tentatively slated to be the album's first single, slams like an unholy cross between Led Zeppelin and Cro-Mags. But it also features a chorus so sublimely poppy, Mark McGrawth and Sugar Ray would gladly trade a lifetime's supply of hair gel for it..."

When I first heard the song, having SOAD as my favorite band for over 3 years now, I was shocked at the "Everybody's going to the party, have a real good time.Dancing in the desert, blowing up the sunshine" portion. THEN, I got around to reading the entire song lyrics and understood what is meant by this. It's clever, and depressing at the same time. Great song. I'm looking forward to Mezmerize this May.

Eminem – Kim Lyrics 19 years ago
There's various ways of expressing hurt in a song. Most usually directly state it, but here it's shown by the extent Eminem has reached to. He's showing himself as delirious from pain, and the chorus:

"I don't wanna go on
Living in this world without you"

Makes it obvious to the listener that he loved her deeply.

That definitely doesn't justify his lyrics, of course.

Is it just me or are Verizon employees jackasses for not using this song on their commercials? It obviously doesn't pertain to the same thing, but the lines "It's so much better when everyone is in, are you in?" would fit perfectly with their slogan and company advertising. Pfft.

KMFDM – Anarchy Lyrics 19 years ago
It's most likely totally wrong, but whenever I hear the lines "I made a god out of blood, not superiority" it makes me think of governmental officials who are unfit for their job, but because of their high positions, they are there anyway. George Bush Jr would be an example. He's an unfit leader in some's opinions (not mine, I'm not Anti-Bush) and some may feel he's only where he is now because of his father. So he's a "god made of superiority." Making a "god out of blood" would require the leader to deserve the position by trials. Perhaps this "god of blood" -- which I don't feel is referring to God but rather a political leader -- is nonexistant so therefore we have the main idea of this song: anarchy.

Nine Inch Nails – Underneath It All Lyrics 19 years ago
Both interpretations of the song make perfect sense. I've, until reading some of the interpretations here, always thought the sound related to Trent's depression. How he can try and internally hide it, cover it up, but it's still there "underneath it all".

"Crucified after all I've died, after all I've tried. You are still inside."
-Here it appears the depression, the lurking pain and confusion has done so much to him in the past. After all he's died and tried, it's still there. Years later.

Cold – Goodbye Cruel World Lyrics 19 years ago

Nine Inch Nails – Somewhat Damaged Lyrics 19 years ago
I too relate dead on with the song. The "In the back, off the side..." portion till the end.

I relied on someone who told me he'd always be there and loved me. Then he left, I broke apart and he was there, watching it happen. "Where the fuck were you?"

This song is an amazing opening to a rather unexpected album. I only hope the new album is beautiful in its own way as The Fragile is.

Nine Inch Nails – Something I Can Never Have Lyrics 19 years ago
"Something I Can Never Have" is tied up there for most poignant NIN song along with "And All That Could Have Been". This is the song that got me into Nine Inch Nails to begin with.

"I hadn't even heard this song until the person that it reminds me of introduced me to it a couple of months ago" - Funny, because that's exactly how I was introduced to NIN and this song in particular.

I'm yet another person who finds it so painful to listen to this song because I also want something I can never have. I fell in love with my ex. best friend's brother and although I'm still friends with both of them, we had a couple months of intimacy where he proclaimed his love to me and I to him. During that period of time, he told me this song reminded him of me because we both knew that no matter what, we can never be. Since then, he's moved on, but I know our twisted relationship remains within our memories.

Nine Inch Nails – And All That Could Have Been Lyrics 19 years ago
Bloodomen, obviously you don't realize the depth and level of emotion built into this song to have thought of it so one-layered.

What more can I say that hasn't already been said? This song has become my all-time favorite song for over half a year now and I don't think it's slipping down a spot any time soon, if ever. I met this song at the lowest point of my life and like many of you, found such a major relation to it. I fell in love with someone rather obsessively and (at the time) he fell in love with me. I have terrible issues regarding love and self-esteem and pushed him away although he tried so hard to "save me". He now has moved on and I'm left with a trace of what was between us and what could have been.

I think almost nobody, in their related situations, have reached the level of despair Trent releases in this song. Not myself and probably not anyone who has posted.

One of the most impactive lines in the song is:

"Ice is starting to form,
Ending what had begun."

It reminds me so much of my own ordeal and gives a generalization of fading relationships. Water represents the emotions. It begins to harden and becomes ice. Ice being the point of apathy towards it.

Absolutely gorgeous in all its poignant melancholy.

Nine Inch Nails – Leaving Hope Lyrics 19 years ago
I personally invision this whenever I listen to it:

I see the first half of the song as the "Leaving Hope" portion. The sad, melancholy portion which portrays someone who has lost all hope in everything. Then towards the middle of the song after the second collaboration of the string instrument and the piano, I feel a moment of realization. From then on, I feel a sense of moving on and development musically and as a person whom is using the music to portray the mind. At the very end, I feel the person has become someone else emotionally. I think this song is ever-developing and one of the greatest pieces ever created.
