I did not know any of this, solid piece of info. Who's the ex she wants to kill, then?

That makes a lot of sense, that would make
"Them no like me, me no like them
Like Hu Jintao".

Cause that dude ain't too popular. The rest sounds right, even the "love up like men" bit.

M.I.A. – It Takes a Muscle Lyrics 13 years ago
Pfft! I did say "something like", yeah-eah-eah.

But yeah, the song pretty much speaks for itself, loving in a world full of hate takes some balls/bones/muscle, especially when shit ain't exactly going your way.

Ps. It's "worse than sad" :D

Can anyone make out what she's saying during the Lady GaGa diss? I really need to know.

And the song is clearly about getting really, really fucked up and getting into fights with bottles of Sambuca. Whatchu say, eh?

M.I.A. – It Takes a Muscle Lyrics 14 years ago
A good start, but you're a bit off. Should be something like:

When everybody leaves you lonely, times are west and sad
and the world is pulling on your hair.
Just remember that for all you know, good or bad come morning,
you're gonna live tomorrow, if you don't die today.

It takes a muscle to fall in love
It takes a muscle to fall in love, yeah-eah-eah
It takes a muscle to fall in love
It takes a muscle to fall in love

Now the fear got in me, it's gotten me deep,
that's where it's gonna stay and never leave.
Someone come lay my worry, someone come kill my pain,
someone come and put me on my feet again.

It takes a muscle to fall in love
It takes a muscle to fall in love, yeah-eah-eah
It takes a muscle to fall in love
It takes a muscle to fall in love

We gotta love one another, that's what the good man say,
but I got too much trouble going round my head.
Someone come and pick up my love, take it all away
'cause I could break down tomorrow if I don't die today.

It takes a muscle to fall in love
It takes a muscle to fall in love, yeah-eah-eah
It takes a muscle to fall in love
It takes a muscle to fall in love

Ey.
Ey.
Ey.
Ey.
(Woah-oah-ah-oh, ey.)

If they kick you then I'll back you*

Like a bomber needs to love up Dzhen*

I can't make out the rest of that verse, but this song is definitively about what makes a "terrorist" tick. It even contains a shout-out to one of the Moscow Black Widows, Dzhennet Abdurakhmanova (Dzhen) was a 17 year old chick who blew herself up in the Moscow Metro, because she really loved Allah (hear how M.I.A. drags out that alot?) and because she fought the ones who she thought were fighting her.

Take a look at any page you're surfing at any given time and chances are you'll find a GoogleAd or ten. They keep tabs on what we search for, where we browse and what forums we frequent in order to sell us things, and M.I.A. seems to think that the Governments of the world have access to this information as well. Scary shit.

Plus Google's been known to censor their searches/remove content when asked to by government agencies.

The Hold Steady – Citrus Lyrics 17 years ago
don't mean to nitpick, but i hear it as: "lost in love and faithless fear."

one of my favourite tracks off the new album, to me it's a tribute to that certain kind of drunk where you're kind of floating and observing everything. you see everything, but you're above it all. that's how i heard it, but carlwinslow's interpretation is really, really awesome and enticing.

LL Cool J – Mama Said Knock You Out Lyrics 18 years ago
it's 90s gangsta rap. woot. and reynard, people were calling LL a sellout and a pop-bitch, which he was at that time, then he turns around and smacks them in the face with an album that's a genius mix of hard-edged hiphop and mainstream accessability. and people shut the fuck up until he released his next album, which was a let-down.

awesome song, very over the top, but not in a cartoony Ez-E way.

Am I the only one who thinks it's extremely ironic that the GoogleAd for this page is for HipHopJewels.com?

Oh, and I love this remix, it's a thousand times better than the original.

"I'm not a businessman, I'm a business, maaan,
Lemme handle my business, damn."

Score.

Andrew Bird – Tables and Chairs Lyrics 19 years ago
right, guess i'll just pick up where i left off, seeing how songmeanings hates me ever so much:

do i run rare? (loving the newsom reference)
i love that part as well, in fact, the first "verse" is what made me obsess over this song for so long.

"just don't let the human factor fail to be a factor" is just amazingly pretty

as for my take on the song, it is of course horribly subjective and quite possibly one hundred percent wrong, but i see it as some sort of post-economic-apocolypse party song. once all the rules and regulations go to hell we all just kiss, hug and turn into one euphoric world state.

Wilco – I'm the Man Who Loves You Lyrics 19 years ago
To me, this song is about a couple that's had a nasty fight. One of them left. And now the narrator is trying to write a letter of apology, reconciliation and sweet, sweet love, but it's pretty much amazingly hard for him to get what he feels down in writing.

So he just wishes he could hold her hand and, yes, you've got it, make her understand, that he's the man who loves her, thus making it all nice. On ice. Allright.

At least, that's how I hear it.

Aesop Rock – The Greatest Pac-Man Victory In History Lyrics 19 years ago
this song sounds like aesop telling us all about his unorthodox summer job; selling/producing acid, and how he can't do that shit anymore. i could be wrong, seeing how aesop is never easy to understand.

Spoon – Car Radio Lyrics 19 years ago
Just a quick correction on the lyrics:
"fooling around just a minor on the interstate"
should be
"out on a mission, just a minor on the interstate"

and, in my opinion, this song might be about the ultimate high-school road trip.

Cap'n Jazz – Tokyo Lyrics 19 years ago
i think this track is what sold me on cap'n jazz. i found it to be insightful, intelligent, witty and most of all: sonically pleasing. i mean, the sheer amount of alliteration in this one track..

just, wow.

Sufjan Stevens – All the Trees of the Field Will Clap Their Hands Lyrics 19 years ago
while i too am skeptical when it comes to music and religion (mostly due to bad personal experiences with what is considered 'christian' music), sufjan really has a way of conveying his beliefs without sounding pushy or abrasive, he's simply writing about what's important to him. and i'm fine with that, seeing how he does it so well.

also, the humming chorus thing in the background of the second verse is, well, simply marvellous.
da-dadada-da-dadada.

Sufjan Stevens – Detroit, Lift Up Your Weary Head! (Restore! Rebuild! Reconsider!) Lyrics 19 years ago
the repetition and melodic focus in this song is lovely, really, it adds depth to lyrics that might be considered bland in another context.

Neutral Milk Hotel – The King of Carrot Flowers Pts. 2 and 3 Lyrics 19 years ago
i'm still amused, amazed and quite frankly boggled that so many people are so completely put off NMH as a band because of 'the king of carrot flower pt. 2.'
but, i have to admit i understand them, religion is a hard thing to deal with when you're a hipster.

oh! oh! i also love how the transition between part 2 and part 3 is so amazingly seamless that, well, it becomes one song. yet it's two. like a kinder-egg minus one.
