A Perfect Circle – Fiddle And The Drum Lyrics 19 years ago
the song's a metaphor for going to war, trading the fiddle, which is usually played in peaceful times, for the drums which are marched to during war. Trading the handshake for the fist is pretty explanatory, etc.

A Perfect Circle – Imagine Lyrics 19 years ago
This is unbelievable. A Perfect Circle did a perfect job on emphasizing the points made by this song, even better, possibly than Lennon. And people, those of you who said that their video sucked, I spite you. In addition to being a truly touching video, it was real. In an interview with MJK, he told us that the video was comprised of actual videos shown on the news. The freaking news! All of these events were made available to the public. The news is saying "we are doing so great in Iraq, helping them so much" while they are showing videos of things blowing up and children looking like they haven't been fed in weeks. Do you see the irony? Also, they throw in a satirical little bar at the bottom like news programs, furthering their point. Do you notice that their sports teams are called things like "The rockets" etc, war terms? Things so violence-oriented have sports teams named after them that are celebrated by entire cities. The irony returns. The bullets are victorious! The bullets? Someone got shot? Huh? ... anyway. Person who said Pet was an anti-Bush song, I wouldn't exactly say it's anti-Bush. Bush isn't covering anything up. Now their "Counting bodies like sheep to the rhythm of the war drums" video is probably more anti-Bush, as he stood their watching sheep, which probably represented 'brainwashed' humans be led to their destruction because of the media and television's influence. But Pet, is more made to, in my opinion, have maynard representing the media, or of course drugs as another interpration would agree, but for my use, the media. He is saying "step away from the window, go back to sleep" saying that people shouldn't look around in the real world, and instead should watch the media, taking in highly media-propogandized material, and believing that it is true. The media is there to comfort the american individual, and keep it under its influence, saying "stay with me" "hold you and protect you from the other ones, the evil ones, don't love you son, go back to sleep" meaning that the real world wouldn't be so comfortable, they wouldn't be able to be happy knowing what was really going on in the world, and that they should just remain ignorant, without their own view of the world, instead having the media's faked view of the world rerouted and used as their own. These are my interpretations of these songs, use them as you will :D

Oh, and i think that learn to swim, is just stating that in the event of a natural disaster, humans will eventually adapt and evolve to coordinate with the problem. That no matter what happens, humans will survive. Or of course the rest of the song could contradict that idea, saying that the ultimate cleansing would be the removal of mankind from the earth, so that mother nature could fix itself and go back to normal, such as displayed in the movie the day after tomorrow. Just a suggestion.

Well I think that this song means all of what you guys said, and more, but here's an idea. Have any of you guys read the "Two spirals" post? The famous thebigbakedbean post? Well if you did, you would know that there's an alternate arrangement of tool songs that fits well. I would suggest reading this post ( http://www.angelfire.com/ma4/question/insight7.html ) But this said, the spiral hint was made by the drummer in one of the songs, using an algebraic number using the drum beats that made a spiral, known as a Fibonacci sequence. I was thinking that the line 'read between the lines' was a hint that instead of looking at the lyrics of a song, there would be something in the actual tabs that related to something, or in another song (e.g. Lateralus, where the fibonacci sequence takes place) buut of course it could justbe saying read between the lines... only mjk would know... anyway this is an awesome site :D
