Bright Eyes – Down in a Rabbit Hole Lyrics 18 years ago
I'm always pretty confident, when I hear the song, that it's about.. or related to.. a drug house. The kind that's in everyone's neighborhood. You know what they're doing. And if you don't, you're curious to find out. There are TONS of obvious drug references. Not just one type of drug.

I always associated this song with bulimia.

Many of the lines give it away. I'm glad other people have realized the seriousness of this song's subject. Yes, I'm pretty damn sure it's about coat hanger abortions.

The Dresden Dolls – Will Lyrics 19 years ago
I think it's the willing and wanting.. well, the urge, actually... to have an orgasm. She can't get one from the one she loves, so she's decided to go for it with a one night stand. Maybe his name is Will? Maybe she doesn't even know his name? Maybe the only way she can "get off" is when she's with a stranger? Or maybe... she and her lover have grown dull with each other, or perhaps it's just her lover that is bored with her. That's what it sounds like to me.

Radiohead – Creep Lyrics 19 years ago
ah, the beauty of cliche' !

I really love this song.. it reminds me of bulimia for some reason. I suppose it's the "I want a perfect body part" but that's all. I know that's not what it's about... but oh Thom has such a way with words.

Tori Amos – Leather Lyrics 19 years ago
This song performed live sends chills up my spine... even just thinking about it! The crowd really goes wild with this one because it's quite obvious that this song is one of Tori's favorites to perform. I'd say it's because most everyone can relate to it's complexity and simplicity all at once.

Tori Amos – Space Dog Lyrics 19 years ago
I can definitely agree with both ideas. The government one really stands out to me. For some reason, I keep thinking of the menstrual cycle when I read certain lyrics from this song. Maybe it's because space helmets remind me of toilets? Maybe dirtyfishydishcloth reminds me of a used "rag"? Maybe lemon pie reminds me of urine? I'm pretty sure it's just me so don't lecture me on my interpretation, please. I'm pretty artistic when I'm on the "rag," actually. A woman's period is such an ugly and beautiful thing. Ugly beauty is art to me. So, voila! Here I am telling people about how this song reminds me of a bleeding vagina... What is wrong with me!?!? hah.

what's so bad about this song? Sure it's not as good as some of the other weezer songs.. but you can't say it's the worst. I mean.. come on. Controversy, people! I love it.

.. or maybe it's just my fetish for kickass sexy transvestities... eh.

Tori Amos – Not The Red Baron Lyrics 19 years ago
What exactly is she saying in the beginning of the song... before she starts singing?

Sounds a bit like...
"What I wish?"
or
"What, my wish?"
and then
"No, touch!"

Maybe it's lines from a movie or play.. since there are many film references in the song. I don't know.

Tori Amos – Mary Lyrics 19 years ago
And no worries though about the genitalia reference. I can definitely see that now that I've read the song again. I can see where it can be a metaphor of a young girl discovering her body and hitting puberty, and the urge for sex. Now I've got so many outlooks on this song.. I love how Tori can layer her songs like this.

Tori Amos – Mary Lyrics 19 years ago
Yes.. Mary Magdalene is what I beleive this song is about as well. I love it when she says "Butterflies don't belong in nets.." which when I first heard the song I thought of a free-spirited who everyone wants to trap.. which kind of goes along with the Magdalene interpretation but now that I've really disected the song I'm thinking of "..everybody wants a piece of Mary.." because The Feminine is such a powerful thing. Everyone wants to experience her whether they realize it or not. So now the "butterflies don't belong in nets" line makes me think of how Tori is a rare being who's captured the beauty and essence of The Feminine.. and she doesn't want to hog it all to herself. This goes along with many of the other lines in the song including "even the wind cries your name.." I have so much to say about this song! The "Las Vegas got a pin up girl" line emphasizes Mary Magdalene, the prostitute, in a modern way. The verse where it says "Rivers of milk are running dry.." is the metaphor of the nourishment that the feminine gives.. and only she and the forms of her can give it. And then the chorus lines and "When I think of what we've done to you" I'm pretty sure are referring to the hidden conspiracy of the Magdalene. Oh .. I love this song.

Ashlee Simpson – Lala Lyrics 19 years ago
Haha.. looking at the other comments makes me piss myself with laughter.

I'm not an Ashlee fan either.. but this song is stuck in my head all the time because of that goddamn thermasilk commercial..

And everyone supposes this song is about sex. Well.. the part of the song I heard implied cleaning. DUH! But then I realized that she says French maid, and not just maid... and that's a big difference. Everyone knows regular maids don't get laid, only the french ones do. Of course.

Tori Amos – Mr. Zebra Lyrics 19 years ago
oh and about the Courtney Love reference..

I don't think this song is about her. I have a feeling Tori has too good of a relationship with Ratatouille Strychnine to compare her to Miss Love. She may have been a bit of an inspiration to get Tori interested in the dark side of the feminine because of the whole Trent ordeal... but I don't think the song is necessarily based on her.

Tori Amos – Mr. Zebra Lyrics 19 years ago
me and my gal pal Leanne talk about Tori songs a lot. Today she called me up and said "Heather, what do you think the song Mr. Zebra really means?" And I've been listening to this song since I was 13.. and I always thought it was about a woman who was abused by her husband and she poisoned him and buried him alive. Leanne discussed this with her stepdad and they came to the conclusion that the song may be about abortion & women's rights. I can definitely see that side of the story too. But Tori has many layers in many of her songs.. that's what I love about her most.

Tori Amos – The Wrong Band Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is about the woman who the mayor is having an affair with. He buys her all of these things. She has a weakness for men with money. She beleives him when he says he loves her and subconsciously she knows it's not true. Either Tori is switching point of views in the song with herself and the woman, or the woman is pondering and arguing with her own inner voice. WHOA, I just realized that maybe "Heidi" is referring to Heidi Fleiss. Hmm? When I first heard this song I thought that "Ginger" was referring to the 'movie star' on Giligan's Island. Hehheh.

Actually what I got from the song was: how women look these days. For instance, a girl taking all this time to do her hair, do her makeup, but still "YOU LOOK LIKE SHIT!" But you know, that's just a feminist's point of view (mine) but I can definitely see everyone else's take on it.

Tori Amos – Cloud On My Tongue Lyrics 19 years ago
I heard this song performed live in concert and the first thing that came to mind was sex. Maybe Tori caught me on a demented day.. but the "circles and circles" brings me back to ole raspberry swirl. I assumed it was about losing virginity. "over the bridge" and the sexual meaning of "you're already in there" which puts a great image in my head. there's "I'll be wearing your tattoo" which would be the most beautiful sensual metaphor, being one with someone, you're in their skin, they're inside you. How beautiful. And then "cloud on my tongue" seemed to capture some oral sex meaning. And "don't need much to keep me warm" is being close to someone, in their arms. But hey, no matter what it means... it's still a beautiful beautiful song.

Well, like Tori says, Boys For Pele was a dark time in her life. So I can relate to that. I can see her pouring out all of these nonsense words at her piano, so passionately. I do beleive though that this song is a reference toward her rape.

At first I couldn't see how the lyrics to this song fit Tori's explanation about her being the bad guy for once. She's the mother that runs away from her child in this song.

But now I see it, clear as day! "I've even curved this body to fit your bow," is what the mother is saying to the child, she just tries and tries her best but now it's over. She's done. She keeps on driving without stopping to pick him up from school.

Tori Amos – Crucify Lyrics 19 years ago
"Got enough guilt to start
My own religion"

That's such a beautiful line. It made me think, maybe that's what religion is. Guilt? It makes a lot of sense.

In Tori's book, she explains how her first crush was on Jesus. There are a lot of references in this song toward masturbation. "Looking for a savior beneath these dirty sheets." We crucify ourselves when we do things that every human does, we try to punish ourselves for doing these things because they're 'sinful.' And "Nothing I do is good enough for you" is a line that everyone can relate to. It's a cry out to God. I cry this out all of the time. How can someone expect us to do (or not do) all of these things? "Every finger in the room is pointing at me," meaning she feels accused and insecure. "I gotta have my suffering so that I can have my cross," is what made me think about masturbation. But I mean, it's not JUST masturbation, it's everything that comes in the package labeled Temptation. We shouldn't be so hard on ourselves, is what Tori is basically saying.

You could be right. But I've read up on a lot of Tori's book and it seems to me this song is about Mary Magdanlene.
