Grateful Dead – Playing in the Band Lyrics 17 years ago
i think this song is an answer for the followers of the band. bobby is saying "i'm not a messiah, i don't have the answers, i'm just playing in the band." they can't be held responsible for what the dead heads do, you know? they're just playing music.

he's obviously comparing himself to jesus, too. maybe as a misunderstood prophet?

Grateful Dead – Cassidy Lyrics 17 years ago
song was written in '72, cassady died in '68. he was a close and dear friend of bobby's, even though they were very far apart in age. here is what barlow himself said:

"This is a song about necessary dualities: dying & being born, men & women, speaking & being silent, devastation & growth, desolation & hope.

It is also about a Cassady and a Cassidy, Neal Cassady and Cassidy Law." cassidy law, NOT bob weir's daughter.

Talking Heads – Radio Head Lyrics 19 years ago
yeah. the song has to be looked at from the standpoint that it was written for the movie. i read on talking-heads.net that david byrne wrote the lines sang by the characters specifically for the movie and that was all. later, he wrote entire songs out of them with the band.

Talking Heads – Once In A Lifetime Lyrics 19 years ago
i think it's about how when you're young you have all these ideals that you live for, and when you get out of college you start making compromises. you take a corporate job because you're tired of being shit poor. and so you meet a woman and your family or coworkers or "the american way" persuade you to marry her. and all the sudden you wake up at 40 thinking, "what the fuck is this? how did i give up so much to land here?" as you realize that you've sold all of your ideals for "success."
