The tone of the song tells it all.
In the beginning of the song, her voice is flattering and flirty. She seems to be falling for this incurable humanist. By the end of the song, her voice is grating—pronouncing every syllable with some disdain. The incurable aspect is no longer cute, but rather an obstruction to their relationship. So.. what happened?
The song seems to center around an inability to feel the other’s love language. She falls for the incurable humanist (insert any intellectual movement). And she wants to sing a song about nothing at all—very playful.
As the song progresses, she realizes his stances are somewhat hostile. Porcupines and antlers signal a defensive individual—protected by a sharp, hurtful exterior. Further, car bus train plane—his desire to distance himself.
Her desires are expressed in mamaology and papaology…and her plea for him to stay.
It is at this point where the ologies, previously her attempt to use his language of science to understand him become her own ologies—her language veering between apology and mythology.
In spite of his stance, she still wants to be with him. She apologizes for the barriers that are between him, all the while trying to create a new language that they can both understand and inhabit.
As all relationships are a creation of a new language between 2 people, this one is particularly painful for her.
