It’s about governments being bought out by corporations and then lying to you about why everything is so screwed up. Blaming it on anything and anyone but themselves. And if you start asking questions, or speaking the truth, they come after you. “Feed you to the hounds” being akin to cancelation, deplatforming, reputation smearing, false imprisonment, or worse.
The only thing I find odd about the song is that Thom references The Daily Mail which has always been about human rights and shedding light on corruption and corporate greed. He, quite literally, picked a paper that’s against the same things he says he is. I mean, just read the paper yourself. It’s all about pointing out corruption within the government, corporate greed, calling out lying politician’s BS, etc. It seems like Thom may be out of touch and simply picked the name of a paper that people will recognize. Unless he believes that all papers and all independent journalists everywhere are corrupt and lying to him. That’s a bit far down the old rabbit hole for me, though.
Either way, he’s much better when he’s not letting his activist side boil over into paranoia against the people who support the same things he does.
