I think this song is based on two books, The Island of Dr. Moreau and Heart of Darkness. This song is a narration from the perspective of a half goat-man who is stuck on an island. He has a Willy Wonka type personality, so big and flamboyant to disguise what’s really going on. The song opens up with jungle sounds to give the feel of a dense jungle around you, and then the goat-man starts talking. He tells the boy that this is his ‘zoo,’ and that he is going to help him around. He shows him to other animals, including a snake-baboon and an ape-swine (pig). The boy is clearly freaked out, and the goat-man calms him down. He says even though his hands are hooves, he’s still a man because he has toes and can smile. The bridge switches to a different perspective- a cat-man. He is talking about how all the lack of love love,and his memories from his old life are breaking him apart. Then it goes back to the goat-mans perspective, talking about the lab where they were turned into mutants. The song ends with the bridge repeated again, further emphasizing their mistreatment.
