I can only go with the used condom theory as the only way it could make sense.

It is a song about a guy who keeps finding obvious evidence that his girlfriend is cheating on him even though she "loves" him. He gets upset, doesn't know what he should be doing (how to handle it properly) so instead uses the fact as an excuse to 'get permission' to cheat on her too. This goes on until they want to get back together (give it another chance) and she "rights the wrong" (makes it right) in some way, so then he keeps taking her back again and the process repeats. The undertone "Shut the door babe, don't say a word" is probably referencing that they are probably not addressing the underlying cheating issues with each other ("don't say a word") because they just have make up sex instead ("Shut the door babe"... An euphemism for having sex as many couples shut their bedroom door before sex for extra privacy).

Sorry I don't normally read too much into things but if you listen to this song without this interpretation then it just doesn't make any sense.

It is a nice summer tune more than anything.
