I like this song a lot, I'm sure there's many ways to interpret it. To me, when he says "I want more than you can offer", it's like saying "Money isn't everything." Personally, I have a job that pays quite well, but I have to be a completely different person there... and I keep wanting to live in a place where money isn't everything, bc in this world, money can change who you really are inside. In a way I feel like my job is trying to 'Hold me down' by making people that didn't go to college out to be 'lesser' than we are, but most of my friends haven't gone to college and some of them are just cashiers or bartenders, but they seem happier than I am. This song makes me want to just quit my job and live the way I want to (bc TRUST ME, having a lot of money doesn't make me as happy as I thought it would). I might, and this song has made things clearer to me in a way... But like I said, that's how I interpret it personally- what Brandon meant when he wrote the lyrics could be something entirely different, he could have just been trying to make a catchy song... who knows. I'd like to know what other people think.
I like your interpretation WhiteDoveBlackCrow. I think everyone connects to a song in their own way and that's how they interpret it. So, the way I see this song as someone who feels as if they are being held down because of where they are at either in their life or the place where they live. They just want to get out and make something of their life. Or, maybe even there's too many bad memories where they are living and they need to get away. I connect to this song in the sense I want to move to another...

I think it's about moving on to something else . the present is dull and getting on his nerves.
