oh man, talk about a quintessential 80s song! i love this song so much. it recently resurfaced in my collection on a mix my very special friend made...irony, but i digress.
i feel like this is very much straightforward with it's message. the speaker is wounded from a previous relationship, but i think his saying it's a stranger is more an indication that who he thought the other person was is not authentic. in this love, he loses himself too, so no one is real in the end. he never wants to go through this again, so he warns us in song form.
the thing is, when i hear this song, i cannot help but relate while simultaneously wanting him to be so, so wrong. sigh. what a great song.
