I think this song is great and it really speaks to me.
I feel that this song is a warning about indulgences and addictions.

To me it means; ignoring your problems, will only aggravate the problem.
"Lost in a barrel of wine and whining
Snared in a trap of your own designing"
I can relate to the feelings of getting caught in something ... for a second time, and feeling trapped. You worry about the problem and feel that there is no way out. While it could be an alcoholism problem like Theillbehaviored had mentioned, it could also be saying that the person feels "lost" and is turning to alcohol or other indulgences to immediately gratify the issue, but obviously it only gets the person more tangled in the mess they've created.
Despite all of this, the speaker is saying that it is ok to have fallen in to a relapse, but telling the person to look at themselves from the outside in hopes that these mistakes will not control his friend's life.
