You Didn't Have to Be So Nice

Taking a wild swing at this... I'm guessing the song is about a girl whom the singer liked and went over the top to be kind to him. This causes him to feel bad because he liked her before she even started being really nice to him. The resolution is somewhat unclear but it would appear that they got to know each other at the least.
