Cover art for Coax Me lyrics by Sloan

i'm writing an analysis on this piece for a music assignment, and this thought just occoured to me while i aimlessly rambled. i'm just going to copy and paste the exerpt:

Murphy is more known as the "witty" member of Sloan, writing interesting and thoughtful songs with subjective lyrics. Coax Me is no exception to this. At this time, Sloan was trapped in a power struggle with their label, Geffen Records (which is the same label as Nirvana was on). While Sloan were leaning toward further developing their now signature indie pop sound, Geffen were insistent on the band developing their grunge sound. The sound Geffen wanted was more in line with Nirvana, and the lyrics may subtly hint displeasure with this. Critisizing Nirvana’s fans (It's not the band I hate it's their fans, second verse) may have been Murphy’s silent form of protest.

what do you guys think of this? an interesting double standard?
