I'm certain this song is about an addiction of some kind, and fighting it. I'm not sure what the "3 suns and one star" analogy is, though.
The first part is about quitting or facing the consequences ("or the next trick will be on him "). He's has been experiencing the effect of druggs ("drank the oceans dry", "stopped the time"), and yet still regrets what he has done, though cannot abandon his ways.
The chorus is pretty explantory, but I still can't get the 3 suns one star thing...
The next verse shows how he can't conform to the norms of society (square/circle), and how he is left with no alternative ("both bookends burnded" ).
The rest makes some sense after all that. Anyway, awesome song, definitely best on Down III - IMO, a likely contender for best Down song (along with Ghosts Along the Mississipi).
