This is a personal association, but I see it describing my recent graduation. The lines "We're different now/than when we started" has special signifigance in how my classmates and I have changed and grown together over the years. And "We're in the exodus" says how we are all leaving our school. I also used to think the the words were "They're harvesting these fields in autumn" which refers to how we will all be in different schools next fall. For me, "The Beautiful Side of Somewhere" is a plce where I can be in eighth grade forever.
