This song is painfully sad. The protagonist seems to be well aware that he's losing a loved one (possibly to some terminal illness?) Perhaps he is contempleting suicide to join his partner- "what should I do? Sprout wings float up & join you". And perhaps he is jealous of all the attention she is getting on her deathbed? "I could never steal your spotlight away?" Am I even close with this? Just an opinion!
