at first i thought it was about being a third wheel, he doesn't like to hang out with them because he's left out and the other two will always put the other first. but i like JustJulie's idea too, that its a two-faced girl.

In the end, for me, it\'s about giving up, putting on a fake smile, and walking away without being hostile, despite how painful it might be to know that you don\'t belong where you once did. There are a lot of songs about giving up on something, typically about feeling defeated, but the tone of this song is different than most that admitting defeat, kind of woefully jolly. It\'s uniquely about not belonging - not gaining or losing, just not belonging.
