I think (it's my friend's interpretation too, he might have gotten it from somewhere) this is about a Roman soldier after they crucified Christ. Just look deep into it and you can see it. "How could I in all my time, destroy something so divine?"...quite self explanitory. "Without you, I am damned". There you go, I think this is the right interpretation.
