not disagreeing, but just wondering: Piemerica, how did you come to the conclusion that the song is about that? I mean, there are no lyrics, its just ambient guitar noise.
If you pay attention to the album and you can read music, it's not that difficult to understand. Lyrics can't hold a candle to the instrumentation. Without it, you've just got poetry.

to me the album starts of with (everything in its right place) but soon everything gets frantic and chaotic, next something traumatic happens(kid a), then it's the reaction to it which spins out of control(the national anthem), but then it gets unbearable and a "this isn't happening..." feeling from all thats going wrong(how to disappear), and then this song (treefingers) is the not being here, it is the escape, and when it's finally over it's the aftermath...
