I like that interpretation Runix. Now that you mention it, it could very well be about an addiction. But I have a different twist on these lyrics. I think its about romance believe it or not. But not just about any romance, I believe the 'speaker' of the song is afraid to fall in love for fear of getting hurt.
I think this because of the lyrics "It's like waiting for the ocean to save you from the waves" and "Waiting for the needle to take away the pain" because both lines are paradoxes talking about what love's like because of past experiences; and how they don't want to ever fall in love. Also, "Until finally we numb our every border" (which isn't posted but is still in the song) makes me think that the person is trying to close up from love. Finally, the second line "My heart waits in the wings alone" again leads me to believe that the song is about a person not wanting love.
