This song, Things You Shouldn't Do, is in the movie The Trials of Darryl Hunt.
The Trials of Darryl Hunt was a true story about a man who was charged with the rape and murder of two people. He spent 20 years in prison for a crime he did not commit.

I haven't seen the movie but I know this song is in it, I'm just trying to interpret how the song may relate to Darryl Hunt's situation.

"I don't know where I went
When the bar doors closed
And I don't know what I drank
But I felt quite strange
When I said goodbye"

The first five lines sounds like maybe this guy went out to a bar with friends and they ditched him. And he's drunk. And so he's feeling strange about something that may happen? Maybe he witnesses something, or something happens and he's blamed for it and gets in trouble with the law.

"Oh god, I'm scared
But I can't tell you that, can I?"

The way he sings it in the song sounds like he's asking God that question, instead of just saying it in general. Maybe he's praying that God will help with his situation and show them he's honest, yet God isn't helping him so he feels like he can't even tell him that he's scared.

"And I was alone for days
When I lived in that place"

Jail. Or prison.

"And I was a walking corpse
When I saw your face
You turned me off"

Maybe a visitation of seeing a loved one or someone close to him made him completely numb.

"Mama, I'm scared
But I already told you that, didn't I?"

His mother can't do anything about what would happen to him.

"Now I know you're tired
But there's some things you shouldn't do
Like giving your time
To people who don't care for you"

This line makes the most sense and is the most clear-sent message whether it would be talking about a lover, a family member, or friends who aren't true to you and don't care for you.
This can be related to the beginning of the explanation where those friends ditched him at the bar. Maybe he shouldn't have been associating himself with those people in the first place. Or maybe they even had something to do with what happened.
