You and I must make a pact
We must bring salvation back
Where there is love, I'll be there (I'll be there)

I'll reach out my hand to you
I'll have faith in all you do
Just call my name and I'll be there (I'll be there)

And oh, I'll be there to comfort you
Build my world of dreams around you
I'm so glad that I found you
I'll be there with a love that's strong
I'll be your strength
I'll keep holdin' on (holdin' on)
Yes I will, yes I will

Let me fill your heart with joy and laughter
Togetherness, girl, is all I'm after
Whenever you need me, I'll be there (I'll be there)
I'll be there to protect you (yeah baby)
With unselfish love that respects you
Just call my name and I'll be there (I'll be there)

And oh, I'll be there to comfort you
Build my world of dreams around you
I'm so glad that I found you
I'll be there with a love that's strong
I'll be your strength
I'll keep holdin' on
Ooh ooh ooh
Yes I will (holdin' on, holdin' on)
Yes I will

If you should ever find someone new
I know he better be good to you
'Cause if he doesn't
I'll be there (I'll be there)

Don't you know, baby, yeah, yeah
I'll be there, I'll be there
Just call my name, I'll be there (I'll be there)
Just look over your shoulders honey, ooh
I'll be there, I'll be there
Whenever you need me, I'll be there (I'll be there)

Don't you know, baby
I'll be there, I'll be there
Just call my name, I'll be there (I'll be there)
Oh, oh, oh, oh, I'll be there

    My Opinion

Now that Michael Jackson has passed, a lot of people I know are hearing this and almost interpreting it completely differently (although we all know it's really a love song - trust me!).

Since his death it makes me think about how Michael Jackson is always gonna live on in his music, his charity work, etc. He'll always "be there" for all of us. Calling his name by throwing on an old record, or flipping to him on our Ipods. It sounds like it's what he wants all his fans and those who support him to follow and that he has faith in everyone to be good people and loving. If we falter, his loving message will always be in his music and in his life to put us all back on the right track. I don't know. It's just the current times and how interesting it seems to be... it just fits so well.

"Let me fill your heart with joy and laughter..." You already have MJ, RIP!

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
