Chewing out a rhythm on my bubble gum
The sun is out and I want some
It's not hard, not far to reach, we can hitch a ride to Rockaway Beach
Up on the roof, out on the street
Down in the playground, the hot concrete
Bus ride is too slow, they blast out the disco on the radio
Rock-rock, Rockaway Beach
Rock-rock, Rockaway Beach
Rock-rock, Rockaway Beach
We can hitch a ride to Rockaway Beach
Rock-rock, Rockaway Beach
Rock-rock, Rockaway Beach
Rock-rock, Rockaway Beach
We can hitch a ride to Rockaway Beach
It's not hard, not far to reach
We can hitch a ride to Rockaway Beach
It's not hard, not far to reach
We can hitch a ride to Rockaway Beach
Chewing out a rhythm on my bubble gum

They used to hitchhike or take the bus. which is about an hour trip.
"bus ride is to slow - they blast out the disco on the radio" which is a slap at the Italian kids (like John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever) who would play loud disco on the ride.
It's funny how you talk about the Italians in Howard Beach and Ozone Park because it's still like that today when you travel on the Q53 into Rockaway.
The only thing I wonder is what year this song was written about....not the year it was written, but the year it was lived.
