"The Last Shot Ringing In My Ears" as written by and Mcclelland/lightbody/quinn....
Take her home
Take her past this evening
I'm not sure
Sure if I believe you
You carry a gun for fun
You use it twice as easy
I'm sure she is
She is someone's daughter
I couldn't even feel that it was
Wrapped around my head
I don't know what she's done
I don't even want to think about it
She was beautiful
The prettiest girl I've ever seen
I saw everything
Things I hoped I'd never see
She got away from him
And got on a plane this morning
I couldn't even feel like it was
Wrapped around my head
I'm coming down
Coming down the next day

    General Commentsorri im back again!
    it seems like he's saying
'I'm at the airport. She's fucking split! I'm on the next plane'
    i wonder what that means....

General Commentthis is a travelling beautiful song. it's when you're dazed and confused and you've just broken up with someone and you don't know why, and you're travelling away from them like, what just happened? in a dazed and confused way. why if everyones so bothered about snow patrol suddenly nowadays aren't they bothered about the really good ones like this one and not the light up song that everyone knows. sorry i have alot of anger with that song.

But anyway, i think its about confusion in love, like i said. 'i'm sure she is, she is someones daughter.' you could take that literally or you could take it as him saying that that's the only thing he is sure about because obviously, she has to be someones daughter. it's a funny perculiar song cos i get confused myself. who's he talking about? he refers to lots of different people.

General CommentI don't agree with t1nkerb3ll. I don't know, I just get the feeling that its not about anything good. when i first listened to it i thought it might be about an abusive relationship (ie. you carry a gun for fun
you use it twice as easy i'm sure she is she is someone's daughter) viewed from someone on the outside (i saw everything things i hoped i'd never see) and the girl tries to get away. at the end you can hear a guy saying "i'm at the airport, fucking split. i'm on the next plane" or something like that. that's my take on it.

General Commenti think its about a guy who likes a girl but she is in love with someone else...and this guy may be abusive or violent...
i also love it how each line supports the next...
    she was beautiful
the prettiest girl i've ever seen
anyway thats just what i think

General CommentOne of my favorites from the Polar Bear LP.
Jonny Quinn's intricate drumming as well as Gary's hypnotic guitar work add so much depth to the song.

To me, ii sounds like Gary has met and fallen in love with a girl who has a checkered past. She came out an abusive relationship in which her ex-boyfriend died a violent death. But the details around that are sketchy: ("I'm not sure, sure if I believe you. You carry a gun for fun...")
Did she kill him in self-defense...or was it murder?
