inside it's lonely
i drive my car
pass by the signs that speak our past
always remind me
can't block it out
the story we all knew would last
she was lost yesterday
far far away
familiar faces
annually haunt me
the cold brings seasons of the heart
always reminded
can't block it out
no one could see it from the start
she was lost yesterday
far far away

This seems to be about a girl (interesting for an all-male band to write from that perspective - could the song be about someone they know?) who is running from her past mistakes, past life, past problems, seeking answers to all her questions. It is also possible that the band was using the word "lost" here with a double meaning: the obvious one, in that she was lost while driving; and the metaphorical meaning, in that she was lost on life's road, and also lost spiritually.

I've been wondering what is that meaning of

"she was lost yesterday far far away"

    for several years.

It seems to me that spiritual HAIKU lyric. Don't you think so?

This is a cryptic song, written in a way that's interesting to speculate on. Here's my take...

I think the voice in the verses is that of a woman who's driving to her family's home where she grew up for Christmas. "... I drive my car, pass by the signs that speak our past" and "familiar faces annually haunt me; the cold brings seasons of the heart"

Although Christmas is normally a nice time for family, it sounds like there's baggage in this woman's past with her family. Maybe abuse that's been covered up ("no one could see it from the start"). This seems likely, given how the past seems to constantly be with her in such a negative way ("can't block it out").

To me, the subject matter is grim, but the power of the lyrics here is incredible. With just a few words, they've captured the complicated tension of a grown woman's feelings as she's traveling home to visit a family whose past haunts her still.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
