Baby Blue Lyrics
It's the company I keep
The perfect exercise
As I grow older
He took the heat out of the sun
And now it seems the world
Is growing colder
Wishing your life away
No more sinister than sane
Briefing your life away
Between the flicker and the flame
No one can explain
Baby blue is born again
Sucking out screams in stereo
Before my bare eyes
I saw her drowning
She can't get out she won't go far
My heart is in my mouth
But still keep pounding
Wishing your life away
No more sinister than sane
Briefing your life away
Between the flicker and the flaim
No one can explain
Baby blue is born again
Wishing your life away
No more sinister than sane
Briefing your life away
Between the flicker and the flaim
No one can explain
Baby blue is born again

Boxing shadows in my sleep It's the company I keep The perfect exercise As I grow older
-she's going crazy due to losing her baby.
I can't believe what God has done He took the heat out of the sun And now it seems the world Is growing colder
-she looks at the world differently, she blames it on god. she doesn't feel any love in the world anymore (the sun).
I'm looking for some place to go Sucking out screams in stereo Before my bare eyes I saw her drowning
-she's trying to forget her baby's screams with loud music, she has dreams about her baby dying.
Keep my daughter in a jar She can't get out she won't go far My heart is in my mouth But still keep pounding
-she pushes her thoughts of her daughter to the back of her head but they just keep creeping back on her.
those are my thoughts on it after reading what you guys thought. not sure enough about the chorus to say anything though. anyways i love the song regardless of the meaning.

Overall, I think it is about abortion.
Boxing shadows in my sleep It's the company I keep The perfect exercise As I grow older
- The guilt grows as she gets older and fights her demons
I can't believe what God has done He took the heat out of the sun And now it seems the world Is growing colder
- The realization of what she has done has crept in. Guilt, depression.
Between the pleasure and the pain Wishing your life away
- Living a carefree life, we unknowingly often wish our life away (I wish this was over! or I can't wait until next Friday!)
No more sinister than sane Briefing your life away
- The thought of living free and unburdened seems ideal.
Between the flicker and the flame No one can explain Baby blue is born again
- Life can change in the blink of an eye (between the flicker and the flame). Pregnant again.
I'm looking for some place to go Sucking out screams in stereo Before my bare eyes I saw her drowning
- Got to gid rid of the pregnancy, found a clinic that does abortions...
Keep my daughter in a jar She can't get out she won't go far My heart is in my mouth But still keep pounding
- How some abortion clinics keep the fetus to sell, stem cell, etc. She can't believe she did it.
I may be off base but that's what I thought of when I heard the song.
@gragule The song is clearly about abortion, but I don't think it's about organ selling and stuff. The jar is reference to formaldehyde jar, I think. And it's "Her heart is in my mouth, but still keep pounding", not "my heart". I assume it means that she feels her daughter is still living in her memory, and the beating heart in mouth is a reference to Semele from Greek mythology, a story of Dyonisus who was torn apart when his mother, pregnant with him, was murdered. His heart was saved by Athena, and Zeus gave it to Semele - she ate...

I havent thought any about the meanings.. but i dig this song cause, just hearing it reminds me of when i first started talking to Jenny

I hadn't had an idea what was it all about until I find out that baby blues means post-partum depression... I still love this song but... now it freaks me out every time i hear it!

This song, I think is pretty clearly about someone who feels desperation and hopelessness. The title and the reference to a need to protect a 'daughter' seem to imply that a child is the source of these feelings.

Post-partum depression?
That would lead me to think this song about a mother drowning her child:
"Before my bare eyes I saw her drowning"
Then putting it in a jar and eating it's heart?
"Keep my daughter in a jar She can't get out she won't go far My heart is in my mouth But still keep pounding "
Disturbing :O

I think this song is about a depression caused by a miscarriage ("I can't believe what God has done" implies she's not responsible for the baby's death, it was taken away from her). The lines about seeing her daughter "drowning" and keeping her "in a jar" make me think of amniotic fluid and blood (when someone suffers a miscarriage, the first simptom is bleeding) and the jar thing brings to my mind the classic image of a fetus kept in a formol bottle, to preserve it for scientific or medical research or biology teaching, something of the sorts. It's a really sad song, needless to say.

yeah. pollyanne's got the right idea. the heart in mouth reference isn't literal.

yeah, she didn't actually put the baby's heart in her mouth. maybe it means that she is constantly reminded of her daughter because the heart is pounding...

wow. you guys are good.
