Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
Nothing
And nothing's where you're at
When you ain't got something
You'll never get it back
It's coming on like a drug
The universal power of one
But it don't mean nothing
If it all comes undone (uh-huh)
Fly away
If you fly away
You might die today
If you fly
Fly
Gimme some love
Gimme some skin
If we ain't got that then we ain't got much
And we ain't got nothing
Gimme some love
Gimme some skin
If we ain't got that then we ain't got much
And we ain't got nothing, nothing
You're left with nothing
And nothing's what you've got
When you ain't got no-one, no-one
You could have had the lot
And if it's over today
You'll never get that thing you had together, no way
You only get it once
Fly away
If you fly, If you fly
Gimme some love
Gimme some skin
If we ain't got that then we ain't got much
And we ain't got nothing
Gimme some love
Gimme some skin
If we ain't got that then we ain't got much
And we ain't got nothing, nothing
We ain't got nothing (x2)
Our days are numbers
Don't remember how we felt it
We'll never feel the same
And forever have to take it for granted
Don't remember how it started
Gimme some love
So gimme some skin
If we ain't got that then we ain't got much
And we ain't got nothing, nothing
(repeat 4 times)
And nothing's where you're at
When you ain't got something
You'll never get it back
It's coming on like a drug
The universal power of one
But it don't mean nothing
If it all comes undone (uh-huh)
Fly away
If you fly away
You might die today
If you fly
Fly
Gimme some love
Gimme some skin
If we ain't got that then we ain't got much
And we ain't got nothing
Gimme some love
Gimme some skin
If we ain't got that then we ain't got much
And we ain't got nothing, nothing
You're left with nothing
And nothing's what you've got
When you ain't got no-one, no-one

This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
Just A Little Lovin'

I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
Magical
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
i agree Starbux is shit compared to this, this song rocks.
i go ape shit lisenin to this sng and ive fuckd up my throat nearly everytime becos of it....ROCK ON!!

i agree, excellent song, great cd, great guys......go A!!!
Good song, catchy, lyrics are a bit immature, but thats okay.good song.
i think this song is about how amazin a relatioship can b if it works but when things fall apart u have nothin n it feels weird after when ur thinkin about it. its kinda like a moment of passion n u do sumthin crazy then afterwards u think-shit that was weird why did i do that? "dont remember how we felt it and we'll never feel the same"
A are rich bastards, apparently in the video that was the empty streets of cape town, that would cost a lot to make that video
this song's guitar and music is amazing and as for the words they are so true, I don't think its immature ship as other users have stated but more along the lines of life in general, if you haven't got skin or love you haven't got anything because all humans need skin and love to be happy, look at suicide cases where its been found that people haven't had any love but suffered abuse from families where love should be or where partners have died and so the widow etc has followed in the same way. I can also see the relationship side of the lyrics where it says "if its over today you'll never get that thing you had together" because even when couples have spit and tried again it takes a lot to revive that old magic and spark which was once between you, you split for a reason and the human heart and mind doesnt ever let yuo forget that and only couples who are really REALLY meant to be together will get past that and if they where meant to be together wouldnt have split at all. This song is amazing and I rate it really highly which is why ive typed so much about it. From the moment I heard it I fell in love with it so much, the music just struck me as amazing [even though starbucks was a crappy follow up single!] :)
well if u have the album this comes from it actually explains the song in the sleeve. u can go research that urself. this song is really rockin but its different from the other songs on the album, this one is so much harder than the rest, i think A just tried to appeal to other audiences apart from punkers. i think they really wish they were born in california aswell.
