Nightingale Lyrics

Nightingale sing us a song
Of a love that once belonged
Nightingale tell me your tale
Was your journey far too long
Does it seem like I'm looking for an answer
To a question I can't ask
I don't know which way the feather falls
Or if I should blow it to the left

Nightingale sing us a song
Of a love that once belonged
Nightingale tell me your tale
Was your journey far too long
All the voices that are spinnin' around me
Trying to tell me what to say
So can I fly right behind you
And you can take me away

All the voices that are spinnin' around me
Trying to tell me what to say
So can I fly right behind you
And you can take me away

I really love this song. I think it's about the person singing asking "the nightingale" who is probably just a free-spirited person to help her. The person singing wants to fly away with the Nightingale, and leave behind the people who always tell her what to do. I like this song becuase I really want to fly away from school and just live. And I know where my responsibilites lie but I want to irresponsible just once.

Nightingale is such an awesome song...Norah Jones has an incredible voice. In listening to her, I can just imagine the darkened coffee house and the jazz performers before her...she's soft in her vocals, but the music is hard enough to be interesting.

Norah Jones is so amazing, I definitely agree. I love the mellowness of her voice. Anyways...this song. Nightingale has always been my nickname from my grandpa, so this song holds a special place in my heart, especially when I'm about to play a song on my violin for him. Such a wonderful, floating song.

Just Got to Love Her!!

I think this song writer is musing over a past love interest. Hearing the nightingale singing, she is hoping to hear news of her love. She's wrangling with a question she's afraid to ask herself, because the answers scare her. Did he ever/does he still care? Should she get back in touch and confess her love? Is she missing her chance at something real? In any case, we don't know the question, which may hold the key to all these things, but the answer to the core question is either yes or no. And she doesn't know the answer (I don't...

And she doesn't know the answer (I don't know which way the feather falls), or whether she'll go ahead and make a decision without knowing (blow it to the left). She's been getting advice about what to do, and what to feel, but knows the weight of the decision rests solely on her. So she asks the nightingale to take her away so she won't have to face the reality of the decision she's facing.

At least that's what this song says to me. I can relate.

Babbage your description is beautifully written and well put and maybe I'm wrong, but I feel you know exactly how this must feel? To be able to have such deep understanding. I can relate myself to be honest, keeps me up at night not knowing the answers to all the questions in my head. Your description are like words out my own mouth that just couldn't speak myself. Beautiful, thanks
