Rain is a bad reminder of everything I don't want to know
Rain is a backseat driver that takes me where I don't want to go

And it looks like the sky is caving in again
I'm dry and cracked, the sky goes black
And tut, tut, it looks like rain

Erosion
Oh, Spirit, fall like rain on my thirsty soul
Erosion
Oh, sweet erosion, break me and make me whole

The thirstiest grounds can't take the rain
My undecided vices washing on down the drain
And it looks like the sky is caving in again
My heart is cracked, the sky goes black
And tut, tut it looks like rain
Erosion
Oh, Spirit, fall like rain on my thirsty soul
Erosion
Oh, sweet erosion, break me and make me whole

Oh, Erosion, would You wash away my sins?
Oh, Erosion, I need a second shot again
Oh, Erosion, would You break my heart again?
Oh, Erosion, I am a broken-hearted man

Erosion
Oh, Spirit, fall like rain on my thirsty soul
Erosion
Oh, sweet erosion, break me and make whole

Erosion
Oh, Spirit, fall on my thirsty soul
Erosion
Oh, sweet erosion, break me and make me whole

WELL I see where you're coming from lowercaseperson18 and I somewhat agree but I think in this song (excluding the second line..which is where the problem is for me..) Rain refers more to God's ability to cleanse 'like rain': "Spirit, fall like rain on my thirsty soul" and it's a GOOD thing cause it's causing erosion / washing away sin.

"Rain is a bad reminder of everything I don't want to know" could be saying that God's rain reveals everything about you...all the bad things you know you've done... and that's a bad reminder just before you're cleansed, but you need to confess it and realize it WAS bad. Maybe he's afraid to confront all that ("everything i don't wanna know"), but knows he'll need to. But the second verse gets me..

i agree with Emily. Rain is something good reminding us of something bad. Sometimes we don't want to change and cling to sin, so it takes us through the wash, sometimes we don't want to go.

But the rain comes down anyways. We're dry and cracked refers to being full of sin living empty lives.

the thirstiest grounds are the ones that are most empty, sometimes it takes a second washing. He refers to his heart because it's inside of him cracked, even though he's healed, he's still dried and cracked on the inside, but God pours out his grace again.

I agree with lowercaseperson...i personaly dont like rain, cause it just comes from above and you cant stop it, it makes me sad, and you can relate that with sins because..when they get here they are unstopable, like out of your hands..

but in the end it kind of beggs for his sins to be washed, away, because in the end you cant stop rain, you cant stop from sin, only with God's help, you can....

I think this song talks about how the Holy Spirit can erode and clean your heart and life. And make you whole again...even in your darkest hour!

I see some great meaning in the very beginning of the song, "Rain is a bad reminder of everything I don't want to know, Rain is a backseat driver takes me where I don't want to go."

I've seen the rain as sin in my life. Simply put, the sins in my life remind me of alllll the others sins, and the more I remember and dwell the further I go to places I don't want to go, and remember the things I never wanted to know. But the use of, "Backseat driver" opposed to, "driver" is our advice, in that a driver controls where you go...you don't have a choice, however, backseat drives can only control where you go as much as you allow them to. Notice the shift of power, you do have the control over where you go. Thus, remmeber Christ's blood washes us, makes us clean (erodes our sins away), dwell on that instead of all the past sins and silence the backseat driver.

Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
