Penny On The Floor Lyrics
And you're gone
The televisions on
Have you found another man to take my place
There's a penny on the floor and I'm wise
I try to see in your eyes
But all I see is a reflection of my face
I'm trying to write what's wrong
A stronger man might do it with more grace
There's a penny on the floor and I'm wise
I look up to the skies
I cry and pray
And I stare out into space
And you're standing at the door
Turn around and say goodbye
A woman like you comes around just once a life
I try to carry on
Realizing no one can take your place
There's a penny on the floor and I'm fine
I know it's gonna take some time
Before I look at you
Without looking at my own face
I'm tired of the war
A penny on the track
Are you coming back
As a tribute to the days
That were spent with you
No one can take them away
As a tribute to the ways
You filled my soul with courage, hope, and grace
And you're standing at the door
Turn around and say goodbye
A woman like you comes around just a once a life
And you're standing at the door
Turn around and say goodbye
A woman like you comes around
It won't bring me down

a great classic Clarks song! They cant leave the stage, (held hostage by the fans) without playing it most nights. I love this song simply because Scott uses a penny as a euphemism for all the days gone by spent with the one he cared the most about. The penny is such a strong choice. By this I mean that the penny is the smallest amount of money, he could have used "a hundred dollar bill on the floor and it stays" (hehe) but instead he choose the penny, which makes the statement of the smallest little thing reminds me of you since you're gone. love this song, best version is heard live!

my boyfriend introduced me to he Clarks and this is the first song he played for me. I loved it from the first time I heard it. It's a really great song.

yes the clarks are a great local band that is now just starting to go national. this is one of my favorite songs from them

my favourite clarks song...makes me think of everything

Reminds me of my college days back in Pittsburgh seeing good bands in small bars. This song reminds me of all the things and people loved and lost from that time period; things you cant ever recreate because it was a different era in life. Cheers!

makes me think about ex-girlfriends.

idk i heard this song on the radio several times but they never told me what it was. S i had to do lyric sarches for like 94585749 hours and FINALLY! i found it. Great song. I agree with what all of you people said about it.

This song is about ultimate loss and coping with that loss. Losing your soulmate. At least that is how I see it. I can't even listen to this song anymore despite it's beautiful simplicity. Too painful.
