Terry Lyrics
I could be invisible to you
Anyway it doesn't matter now
'Cos I have met somebody new
Why's your mouth just hanging open?
Don't look so surprised
I found another guy
Terry says our love will last forever
And he should know
That boy Terry's not the kind
To mess around and change his mind
Terry is as tough as Marlon Brando
I just had to break the news to you
You'd better hide your face a while
If he gets mad there's no telling what he'll do
So if you don't want your nose broken
You had better go away
'Cos Terry's coming round today
Terry says our love will last forever
And he should know
(Terry said he'll never let me go)
That boy Terry's not the kind
To mess around and change his mind
Terry is as tough as Marlon Brando
It started long ago
So when he said he loved me
I just had to say "I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know"
But Terry knows about karate
There's other things he's good at too
Terry's not a bit like you
Terry says our love will last forever
And he should know
(Terry said he'll never let me go)
That boy Terry's not the kind
To mess around and change his mind
Terry is as tough as Marlon Brando

My mum used to love this song. She applied it to her own situation, and obviously believed it to be a very optimistic sort of song.
To me it never has been, and I guess maybe it says something that the man my mum saw as her "Terry" turned out to be an abusive wanker.
Anyway, I don't see this as a "Hooray, I have moved on and my new man is perfect!" sort of song. I think the singer is probably simply fantasising about meeting her "Terry" and being able to say all those things to her current man who she is unhappy with.
If it isn't a straight-up fantasy, then I think the woman is lying to her no-good ex through her teeth. All the facts about Terry just sound too dreamt-up for him to be REAL.
Of course, there's always the chance that the guy named Terry is real, and that he isn't as perfect as the singer says he is, but she's hoping against hope that he really is.
To me, there's always been something very desperate-sounding about this song.

Hmmm, well, I certainly don;t think Kirsty means us to think Terry is any sort of ideal guy. In the video that was shot for this song, she starts off with a geeky guy (played by Ade Edmondson, incidentally) and dumps him for Terry, who's shown as a lunkheaded, preening, be-quiffed rocker who's pretty much in love with his own reflection. At the end of the video, she's with Terry in a pub where he's performing with his band; the old boyfriend blows Terry off stage with a blinding guitar solo and they get back together.
It's a good video, and funny, as befits Kirsty. It was uploaded to Youtube a while ago.

Not sure, but I think the geeky guy is Terry. In the video, it's sort of ambiguous.
I think she's telling the hunk, "get lost; I've found somebody new; somebody who really cares." And when she sings "...if you don't want your nose broken You had better go away 'Cos Terry's coming round today...." Terry is understandably nervous (he mouths "Me!?")
