Blue Angel Lyrics

Mama never told you
How you were s'posed to treat a girl.
Papa never told you, now you're all alone
Out in the world.
Sirens are screaming
Inside the winding-sheets are pale.
Devils are dreaming of a Blue Angel.
Now I lay me down to sleep
But troubled dreams are all I find.
Pray the lord my sould to keep.
Pray so I won't lose my mind.
Streetlights come streaming
On wings tonight I'll soon set sail
Devils are dreaming of the Blue Angel.
Your momma's going to take it hard
You always were your momma's boy
You're lying in the graveyard
Now you're not your momma's joy.
Silence is screaming
I'll bat an eye and cast my spell
Devils are dreaming of a Blue Angel.

This is a sticky sweet song. By that I mean the sound, not the lyrics. The lyrics make you stop and think about what it's like to be a devil.

She's obviously singing to a dead person, who I suppose is her lover or husband or whatever. I'm thinking she probably killed him (because he doesn't know how to treat a girl), and is about to kill herself as well. This explains, for example, the sirens screaming and setting sail tonight. I think that the singer is the Blue Angel of whom the devils dream.

It's like a film noir plot. I love how she messes with Christian imagery and a prayer to tell a story of sin.

Good comment on the film noir-ness of the song. I find at actually has some parellels with "Der Blaue Engel" (The Blue Angel), an old German flick. I can't say that it's based on it, but I can't say it's not, either...

This is such a fantastic song. Very dark. I always feel so stupid trying to describe why I like what music pulls me in. I wind up sounding dumb or insane but goddamn I miss this band and this style!

@abirata Absolutely I know what you mean esp with this band because I still think Hell is a work of art unrivaled. I am sad to hear the band is not the same now that the relationship within it ended :-(
