This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere.
In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.
I don't want to spend another lonely night... Ooooh
I've got the lights turned up, the door is locked
The bedroom tv's on
Doin' the only thing that gets me through
The night since you've been gone
Prayin' for daylight
Waitin' for that mornin' sun
So I can act like my whole life ain't goin' wrong
Baby come back to me
I swear I'll make it right
Don't make me spend another lonely night
Prayin' for daylight (Prayin' for daylight)
I made a bad miscalculation, bettin'
You would never leave (Ooooh)
'Cause if you're gettin' on with your new life
Then where does that leave me?
Prayin' for daylight
Waitin' for that mornin' sun
So I can act like my whole life ain't goin' wrong
Baby come back to me
I swear I'll make it right
Don't make me spend another lonely night (spend... another lonely night)
Prayin' for daylight (Prayin' for daylight)
Prayin' for daylight (Prayin' for daylight)
Prayin' for daylight
Hopin' that I didn't wait too long (I didn't wait too long)
But this is just the dark before the dawn......Oh
Deep in my heart I know that you love me
As much as I love you (You know I love you girl)
And that you must be lyin' somewhere
Lookin' up to heaven too
Prayin' for daylight
Waitin' for that mornin' sun
So I can act like my whole life ain't goin' wrong
Baby come back to me
I swear I'll make it right
Don't make me spend another lonely night
(Make me spend another lonely night)
Prayin' for daylight
Waitin' for that mornin' sun
So I can act like my whole life ain't goin' wrong
Baby come back to me
I swear I'll make it right
Don't make me spend another lonely night (another lonely night)
Prayin' for daylight (Prayin' for daylight)
Prayin' for daylight
(I don't want to spend another lonely night)
(I don't want to spend another lonely night)
Prayin' for daylight

This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
"i made a bad miscalculation betting you would never leave"
i love this song
Yeah that's one line that really hits hard. You think the feeling is mutual but right when you do the other person is out to prove you wrong.
This song is AWESOME!
"I’ve got the lights turned up The door is locked, the bedroom TV’s on Doing the only thing that gets me through the night Since you’ve been gone" Double Entendre, anybody?
"I made a bad miscalculation Betting you would never leave"
I love that line, it says to me that nothing's certain, and that someone who you thought would be with you forever, whatever you did, can still leave you.
"I’ve got the lights turned up The door is locked, the bedroom TV’s on Doing the only thing that gets me through the night Since you’ve been gone"
is that referring to masterbating?
it made me laugh.
i LOVE this song. one of my all time favorites by the flatts. who are by far the best country band.
but i wanted to comment on tush asking if it was about masterbating. i thought so too. but then it clearly states "praying for daylight" i might be wrong but i dont think its about materbating. anyone else agree?
I KNOW RIGHT??? RASCAL FLATTS ROCKS MY SOCKS! And no, it's not about masturbation... Tush, you're kind of a retard if that's what you think.. no offense. But yeah, I LOVE THIS SONG MORE THAN LIFE ITSELF.
you can't say someone's kind of a retard, but no offense.... <br /> and it could DEFINITELY refer to masturbation.
I love this song!! The singer is singing to his lover and telling her that he made a lot of mistakes and wish that they'd come back so he can make things right. Also, he's waiting for daylight because at night, that's when he has plenty of time to think about his mistakes and that doesn't sit well with him.
