Peruvian Skies Lyrics
I believe that Vanessa is the reporter or the one that wrote the article that JP read, not the girl being raped and beaten. She is the one that regretfully waits. At the beginning of the song, Vanessa "regretfully waits" while the "story unfolds" for the incident to be comepletley over so she can have the story.
The "Monster you created in your daddy's name" I think means the guilt and regret that the reporter "Vanessa" has is killing her inside. The girl being raped, and Vanessa are both victims. She watches helplessly. "Telling her secrets won't take them away"
One way to look at it I guess...
An abused girl living in Peru who was raped and beaten. John Petrucci reports having read an article about this when he was inspired to write about it. It sounds like she is having trouble in her home life, since it alludes to her father as being a monster. The terror that comes to the girl appears to come specifically at night, which is why there is "midnight's hysteria" in her eyes.
this song is about a girl in Peru being raped and beaten...if you look at the lyrics. you'll see what i mean
Sparta's right, the song's based on an article JP read about an abused girl in Peru that moved him to make the song, kinda like Anna Lee.
It's an intense song isn't it? I really like it.
i love labries voice in this. the raspyness is really cool. i remember not liking this song when i first heard it, but i love it now. and interesting i had no idea it was about a specific raping, but i sorta had a feeling it had something to do with that
It kind of grows on you after the first listen, but I do remember the first time I head it, I knd of hated it.
This song is about exactly what shand said.. I like this band mostly for it's intense instrumentals, i like it when this song starts getting heavier... Michael portnoy is one of the best drummers I've ever heard but however i look at it i still think danny carey is better... Next to tool this is one of my favourite bands
I just realized today what this song maybe about. I think Sparta and shand2001 are right, this is about a girl raped in Perù. Is that her real name, anyway? That doesn't matter I guess. I think it's a very cool song and that "Falling into infinity" is a very good album since they showed they're not only capable of writing long, complex suites but also "poppier" (a very loose term in this case) songs. Very psychedelci too, kinda like Pink Floyd meets Metallica (in fact this reminds me of "Enter Sandman" with some folk thrown in too.
they actually play the enter sandman riff when performing peruvian skies live
