No, you don't want me to be there
To kiss your eyes, caress your hair or kill that pain away
As pain is my companion, solitude my guide
Your sweet affection solely offers me a threat I cannot abide

Yet you'll lose yourself in meâ?¦ in me

Bleed in my arms wounds within
Fall from grace as I offer you sin
Sacrifice yourself so frailâ?¦
This pseudo-love is as good as betrayal

So place your love in the palm of my handâ?¦
where temptation lies withinâ?¦ that something you've yet to feel
And as I close my fist and awake your sleeping fears
Without forbearance I will quench my thirst of your crimson tears

You've lost yourself in me in me

Bleed in my arms wounds within
Fall from grace as I offer you sin
Sacrifice yourself so frail
This pseudo-love is as good as betrayal

Weep for promises which all died
A drop of tear for every lie
Love forever torn away
I am only to cherish your pain

I am only to cherish your pain

I think this is my favorite song...maybe tied with Sun Won't Shine. As I see it it's about a guy who is incapable of loving (and not hurting) the girl who loves him.

Stanza 1: I see warning to her. He tells her that she shouldn't look to him to comfort her or take away her pain because he enjoys pain and sees her warmth as a threat to him.

Chorus: It sounds like he's talking about corrupting her while she looks to him for love and support. She thinks he loves her but he's just lying his ass off.

Stanza 2: this is where he takes his love (in the palm of his hand) then closes his fist and crushes it. My favorite line in the song is: "Without forbearance I will quench my thirst of your crimson tears." Now I don't know if this is suggesting violence or anything but the singer obviously lusts for her pain.

Stanza 3: She's lost, broken, destroyed and the singer feels no remorse and can only enjoy that fact.

Sadly numerous sentenced songs contain key grammatical mistakes that make you love Sentenced for being Sentenced but also make you want to slap them for not paying closer attention in English class. Great band though, one of my favs.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
