Oh, baby, baby
Oh, baby, baby

Oh, baby, baby, how was I supposed to know
That something wasn't right here?
Oh, baby, baby, I shouldn't have let you go
And now you're out of sight, yeah
Show me how you want it to be
Tell me, baby, 'cause I need to know now, oh, because

My loneliness is killing me (and I)
I must confess I still believe (still believe)
When I'm not with you I lose my mind
Give me a sign
Hit me, baby, one more time

Oh, baby, baby
The reason I breathe is you (oh, yeah)
Boy, you got me blinded
Oh, pretty baby
There's nothing that I wouldn't do
It's not the way I planned it
Show me how you want it to be
Tell me, baby, 'cause I need to know now, oh, because

My loneliness is killing me (and I)
I must confess I still believe (still believe)
When I'm not with you I lose my mind
Give me a sign
Hit me, baby, one more time

Oh, baby, baby (oh)
Oh, baby, baby (yeah)

Oh, baby, baby, how was I supposed to know?
Oh, pretty baby, I shouldn't have let you go
I must confess, that my loneliness is killing me now
Don't you know I still believe
That you will be here
And give me a sign
Hit me, baby, one more time

My loneliness is killing me (and I)
I must confess I still believe (still believe)
When I'm not with you I lose my mind
Give me a sign
Hit me, baby, one more time

I must confess (my loneliness) that my loneliness (is killing me)
Is killing me now (I must confess)
Don't you know I still believe (I still believe)
That you will be here (when I'm not with you I lose my mind)
And give me a sign
Hit me, baby, one more time

    >_> All you kids need to STFU. This is 'songmeanings.net', not 'let'simmaturelybasheveryartistwedon'tlike.net'. Seriously. Look, I know people who -liked- this song when it came out. Hell, I did too. It's not a bad song at all. And although I don't believe Britney herself meant anything too deep by it, the song does have some kind of meaning. She's too wrapped up in a dysfunctional relationship with some guy - she wants him back because she's lonely, but she want him to knock some sense into her (emotionally, physically or otherwise) because she also knows being with him wouldn't do her any good. Can we -please- look past the artists and just LOOK AT THE GODDAMN SONGS FOR ONCE? Jesus. Fucking. Christ. I don't care what the hell you say, everybody back in '99 or whenever thought this was the shit, and they really weren't far off, either. I know songs and artists about a million times worse than you think she sounds, and if you think her singing is to the point of GOD AWFUL, you have really, really bad taste in music. Go look up some Kana on Youtube and then tell me Britney's voice is worse than that. Please.

All of you who diss on Britney Spears are stupid. She is sexy and talented, you are just jealous because you are not.

It means to hit your baby in the head with the stearing wheel while you hold it in your lap like the redneck you are when you slam on brakes to miss that squirel in the road. Thats what the song is about.

please. why all the dramatics. it's just a pop song. it's not that different than most others. she's lucky for what she has while it lasts. lets just leave it at that. she hasn't done nothing that bad.

Matt Shadows their lead singer says the song was written as per request from the developers of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. Watching the initial trailers for the game & looking at production sketches reminded him of the 'S-Town' podcast & its main protagonist, John B. McLemore. Matt also comments specifically on the lyrics: "I decided that the lyrics would shadow McLemore's life." In 2012, antiquarian horologist John B. McLemore sent an email to the staff of the show 'This American Life' asking them to investigate an alleged murder in his hometown of Woodstock, Alabama, a place McLemore claimed to despise. After a year of exchanging emails & several months of conversation with McLemore, producer Brian Reed traveled to Woodstock to investigate. Reed investigated the crime & eventually found that no such murder took place, though he struck up a friendship with the depressed but colorful character of McLemore. He recorded conversations with McLemore & other people in Woodstock. McLemore killed himself by drinking potassium cyanide on June 22, 2015 while the podcast was still in production. In the narrative of the podcast, this occurs at the end of the second episode; subsequent episodes deal with the fallout from McLemore's death while exploring more of McLemore's life & character.
