In my honest opinion, I don't think this song is to do with drugs at all - especially not heroin or cocaine. That came later. The Beatles, at this time, were smoking pot consistently, even in the studio. It is quite obvious that they are inhaling, not exhaling, and I think they were just doing this to mess with the censors and see how far they could go. The same with the tit tit tit noise. It actually IS tit tit tit, not doot doot doot. George Harrison even said that they were trying to see how far they could go w/ the censors again. All these people saying that it couldn't be tit tit tit are wrong. It is.

My interpretation of this song isn't drugs, it's actually about a girl. It's like when you're so in love with someone, no matter how horrible they are to you, you stay with them because you're too attached. If you confront them about it, they promise to change. 'She promises the earth to me and I believe her, after all this time I don't know why'. It's basically a song about a girl who is slightly ignorant, who takes people for fools and messes with people, seeing how far she can push them, and maybe if something drastic like death occurred, she'd only start to believe how bad she was.

Girl is a sort of love song, I suppose he's saying how much he loves her and the sighing 'Ah, girl' is basically a sort of painful yet affectionate way. It's a beautiful song. But it's not about cocaine.

I adore this song. Definitely up there as one of my all time favorite Beatles song. Rubber Soul is an amazing album. John said that the girl in "Girl" was his ideal woman. I also read in a book that at the time this song was written, John was doing a lot of research on Christianity and this song depicted his opinion on their whole religious concept. Whatever the meaning, this is the Beatles at their best. :D

ohh i just dont undestand why people love to look for drug references in every single song. the sighing is not an implication of smoking weed. hardly any of the beatles songs that people think are about drugs actually are. the only one i can think of right now that the beatles have said was definetly about drugs was "got to get you into my life," and there arent too many others anyway, this is one of my favorite songs from rubber soul. i like the grecian style of guitar and teh harmonies during the chorus. the last verse is great.

Girl-Great song by a great band. Drugs? Even if true, I don’t care. The song can’t possibly mean that to me even if the writer himself said that is exactly what he meant. This site asks, “What does the song mean to you?” Not what do you think the song really means… so the words are taken literally by me and that’s all they mean to me. They are self explanatory. Most of us guys have met one of the girls or all 3 depicted in this song. The first girl is unattainable, beautiful and out of our league. The second is clingy, the third is conceited. The 4th girl is all three as they all grow up, get married, settle down age and come to realize that life slips away before you know it its gone.

I confirm that it is "tit tit tit," they said it in an interview... they loved putting in little dirty things that weren't caught. And in reference above to the rubber soul album cover being about pot, it was actually when they were viewing the pictures taken for the cover on an album sized board from a slide projector. There wasn't really one that they all liked themselves in, until the board slipped a bit and then they saw how their images were stretched. They loved it, asked the guy if he could do that, and it was done!

'ITS ABOUT A MAN WHO IS IN LOVE WITH A GIRL WHO HE DOESNT WANT TO LOVE.' you can't say it any clearer than this. You can go searching for all the drug references you want, fact is this is all the song is about plain and simple.

I am sick and tired of people trying to find drug references in every single Beatles song ever written. Yes, The Beatles did drugs, but not everything they wrote was about them!

It is not a bong, it is him sighing. The same way people sigh when they are really into something or someone that is causing them to feel a lot of emotion. A lot of passion.

Anyone who has ever heard a bong could tell the difference when listening, which makes me think that those of you who accuse the Beatles of putting the sound in the background have never even used a bong, let alone been in the same room when one was being used. So maybe you should quit judging. If you do not want to do drugs, that is fine, but accept other people's decisions to do so the same way we accept yours.

And I do not think it is tit tit tit. It is doot doot doot, or something to that effect.

this guy i know told a joke about this song to show how guys think about girls: the song is called girl and the chorus goes: "tit tit tit tit tit tit tit"

It's the best song in the world. I can agree with all here and even with sweetpea and may suppose that the chorus was been learning Russian at that time becourse one can hear "titi titi titi". That means a breast as it calls by children
