This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.
This time I think it could be perfect
But you'd push it away
I came here today with a purpose
Should I try or just let it go
'Cause these things I'd like to ask you
Are things I can't explain
Or should I keep your glance
Outside the porch last Saturday
Should I have succumbed to your courtesy
I could see you were trying to get my attention
But I pushed it away
This time I think it could be perfect
But you'd push it away
Tonight it seemed suddenly perfect
Still no promises made
The balance of power was shifted
Were you trying to let me in
Or was I trying so hard
That all my confidence was lost tonight
Confused and regretful, I cracked
Swallowed it back
And left with no spine intact
Maybe we were meant to see what's right
See how this ought to be
Just a taste of life to see what's right
You made sense out of me
What a shame that we're slipping away now
I'm going away now
Off to see what's out there
'Cause you're all that's here for me
But you'd push it away
I came here today with a purpose
Should I try or just let it go
'Cause these things I'd like to ask you
Are things I can't explain
Or should I keep your glance
Outside the porch last Saturday
Should I have succumbed to your courtesy
I could see you were trying to get my attention
But I pushed it away
This time I think it could be perfect
But you'd push it away
Tonight it seemed suddenly perfect
Still no promises made
The balance of power was shifted
Were you trying to let me in
Or was I trying so hard
That all my confidence was lost tonight
Confused and regretful, I cracked
Swallowed it back
And left with no spine intact
Maybe we were meant to see what's right
See how this ought to be
Just a taste of life to see what's right
You made sense out of me
What a shame that we're slipping away now
I'm going away now
Off to see what's out there
'Cause you're all that's here for me

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
Plastic Bag

“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
i absolutly love this song! it's got such a real kinda meaning...something that happens alot in lots of people's lives....i absoulutly adore midtown..they are a kick ass band!
nice lyrics...i can relate.
I am a huge midtown fan, but this song just doesnt fit in with the music that Midtown represents. Perfect is too cliched, too produced, and too lame. The only Midtown song I dont like (and its really hard for me to say that!).
this is one of my favorite midtown songs. its kinda a different sound for them...but i love the lyrics and can relate the situation there singin about
this song's all like, simple plan style. emo-pop. but its still good...coincedence, simple plan has a song called perfect...but this one's way better

I could picture this a song played a high school by a local band..its awesome
i dig this song man...like you guys all ready said, it's something a lot of people (including myself) have gone through or will probably go through somewhere in the future. i dig it thumbs up
This is an amazing song. I listen to it every day. I can really relate to it..
This song reminds me of how stupid I was to not see how much I cared for this girl. And now we've reversed rolls and I'm the one being pushed away. Things were so close to being perfect. This song is one of Midtowns many great songs.
