She looked at me with dignity
She said there's something you gotta see
Even though this country's headed for war
This nation is prouder than ever before
Yeah that was spirit in the air
We're more American than anywhere
And I just smile cause I could tell
This little girl was going to
Hell

Now I wouldn't mind
If you swallowed my pride
Make me feel alright
Yeah now deep inside
Feel alright

Hey, all the warmth in her heart
Couldn't keep my blood from running cold
Cause I fell for her looks
Now I wanna go for her throne
I tried to tell her a thousand times
But little girl didn't understand at all

Now I wouldn't mind
If you swallow my pride
Make me feel alright
Yeah now deep inside
Feel alright

Alright
You can swallow my pride

Now I wouldn't mind
If you swallowed my pride
Make me feel alright, deep inside
Feel alright
Pride... pride... pride
You can swallow my pride

General CommentThat's a Green River cover isn't it?
Well I think Soundgarden did it better though Green River rocks as well.

General Commentthis is warped but i think they are comparing the american dream or america to a blow job
but its just the first verse is about a girl showing the guy that america is proud of itself
and then the next verse is about the warmth of a womans heart and his blood running cold
    and swallowing his pride
its like america should get over themselves
and that its like a blowjob
yah anyway thats my warped 2 cents

My InterpretationThe song is, of course, a Green River original, and they wrote it in the mid-80s, during the height of the Reagan administration. It's about this guy who is simply describing how he's sick of his girlfriend's shallow, rabid patriotism. The lyrics state, "Now I wanna go for her THROAT" (not 'throne'), and you get the feeling that he thought she was attractive once, but now he hates her because of how blindly pro-America she is.

It was basically a bit of protest revivalism during a time period in the United States when maintaining and following the status quo was once again considered admirable (the 80s).
