What Phillip H. Anselmo said about this song: It's loosely based around how everyone, every single person on this earth is their own microcosm and they can create in their minds either freedom and liberation or... a jail
it is such an amazing song... i love Down
You could take this song literally, "Jail". Someone in the family has been murdered "our lives capsized" - lots of people affected. "One man gives back" - injustice. "Why don't you kneel before me?" - wants revenge. At the end he says "one day you'll find me in the corner more sublime, but still i never died before." Perhaps saying that he;s sure he'll understand the justice one day, but he didnt have to die. Just a theory. Beautiful song.
this song is fucking beautiful, so emotional, i cant believe only one person is commenting on it.
This song has for me one of the best instrumental backrounds. Excellent percussion work and acoustic guitar playing, also the singing fits in like liquid. The words, like krazylarry commented picture nicely the hope to escape for a better tomorrrow when ones soul is trapped and can't find a way out.
Before I heard this song I didn't know I could ever hear Phil like this. After I heard it almost ten years ago, I knew that he was a truly special vocalist. Anyone who can come and swing Walk into your face and turn around and deliver this masterpiece is a once in a generation talent. I can't wait to hear the new Down album hopefully in late 06.
it is about being traped in omething, and the hope of escaping
I agree 100% with you guys! The first time I heard this song i was blown away. One of the few that I totally zone out to no matter where I am or what I am doing.
I agree with you guys. This song is fucking beautiful.
it almost seems that its a one way conversation -or letter- to his wife about coming off heroin. not because he wants to but is being forced to. "one day you'll find me in the corner more sublime" possibly kicked off?
I don't hear "one man gives back" or "be calm my love" in the song...
